Job Summary:
We are seeking a Technical Assistant to support the operations of the materials characterization laboratory at PSG Institute of Advanced Studies. The candidate will be responsible for sample analysis using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment and records, analysis slot allocation, sample tracking, and preparation of billing-related documents. The selected candidate will also be provided training in advanced characterization techniques, including electron microscopy, based on suitability and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
· Perform sample analysis using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) equipment in accordance with established procedures and safety guidelines.
· Prepare, identify, and handle samples appropriately for analysis and maintain accurate sample records.
· Maintain equipment logbooks, calibration records, analysis records, and other technical documentation.
· Coordinate and allocate analysis slots based on sample requirements, equipment availability, and laboratory schedules.
· Receive and track samples submitted for analysis and ensure proper documentation throughout the analysis process.
· Prepare billing documents, analysis statements, quotations, invoices, and other related documents as required.
· Coordinate with faculty members, researchers, students, external users, and other stakeholders regarding sample submission, analysis schedules, and reporting.
· Prepare and communicate analysis reports and results to the concerned users in a timely manner.
· Monitor the operational condition of laboratory equipment and report maintenance, servicing, or technical requirements to the Reporting Officer.
· Ensure proper laboratory housekeeping, equipment handling, and compliance with safety procedures.
· Assist in other technical, laboratory, and research-support activities assigned by the Reporting Officer or Management.
Desired Candidates Qualifications
· M.Phil. / M.Sc. in Physics, Materials Science, Nanoscience and Technology, or M.Tech. in Nanoscience and Technology, with a minimum of 60% marks and a good academic record.
· 1–5 years of relevant experience in research laboratories, testing facilities, or similar technical environments, with knowledge or hands-on exposure to X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), sample preparation, materials characterization, and analysis.
· Good understanding of laboratory equipment operation, data recording, and technical documentation.
· Basic computer proficiency with the ability to maintain records and prepare technical reports and billing-related documents.
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills, with a focus on accuracy.
· Good communication, coordination, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Willingness to learn and undergo training in electron microscopy and other advanced characterization techniques.
