Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced and qualified Trainer – Fiber to-the-Home (FTTH/X) Installer for its skill development training programs in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh.
The trainer will be responsible for delivering theoretical and practical training in fiber optic cable installation, FTTH/FTTx network deployment, splicing, termination, testing, troubleshooting, customer-premises installation, and telecom safety practices.
The training shall be delivered as per the prescribed curriculum, Qualification Pack/NOS, NSQF standards, and applicable skill development guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
· Deliver classroom and practical training for the Fiber to-the-Home (FTTH/X) Installer job role.
· Train candidates on the fundamentals of optical fiber communication and FTTH/FTTx networks.
· Explain different fiber network architectures, including:
¾ FTTH – Fiber to the Home
¾ FTTB – Fiber to the Building
¾ FTTC – Fiber to the Curb/Cabinet
¾ FTTx network concepts
· Provide hands-on training in:
¾ Optical fiber cable identification
¾ Fiber cable handling and preparation
¾ Cable routing and laying
¾ Fiber stripping and cleaving
¾ Fusion splicing
¾ Mechanical splicing
¾ Fiber termination
¾ Connectorization
¾ Joint closure preparation
¾ Fiber Distribution Box installation
¾ Optical Network Terminal/Unit installation
¾ Customer-premises installation
¾ Drop cable installation
· Train candidates in the installation and configuration of basic FTTH equipment such as:
¾ Optical Network Terminal (ONT)
¾ Optical Network Unit (ONU)
¾ Optical Line Terminal concepts
¾ Splitters
¾ Patch panels
¾ Fiber distribution boxes
¾ Routers and customer-premises equipment
· Demonstrate the correct use of fiber optic tools and testing equipment, including:
¾ Fusion splicer
¾ Fiber cleaver
¾ Optical Power Meter
¾ Visual Fault Locator
¾ Optical Time Domain Reflectometer
¾ Fiber stripping tools
¾ Connector cleaning kits
· Train candidates in optical fiber testing, loss measurement, continuity checks, and fault identification.
· Explain basic concepts of optical power, insertion loss, attenuation, reflection, and link budget.
· Train candidates to identify and rectify common FTTH faults such as:
¾ Fiber cuts
¾ High signal loss
¾ Poor splicing
¾ Connector contamination
¾ Loose connections
¾ Damaged drop cables
¾ Low optical power
· Train candidates on proper cable routing, tagging, labeling, and documentation practices.
· Explain basic broadband, internet, Wi-Fi, and router configuration concepts relevant to customer-premises installation.
· Train candidates in customer interaction, service etiquette, installation confirmation, and basic troubleshooting.
· Ensure compliance with electrical safety, ladder safety, working-at-height precautions, PPE, and telecom field safety requirements.
· Conduct regular practical demonstrations, field simulations, and hands-on lab sessions.
· Ensure training delivery as per prescribed **Qualification Pack (QP), National Occupational Standards (NOS), NSQF curriculum, and training hours**.
· Prepare lesson plans, session plans, presentations, assignments, practical exercises, and demonstrations.
· Conduct regular internal assessments, mock tests, practical evaluations, and skill demonstrations.
· Maintain candidate attendance, assessment records, practical logs, tool registers, and other training documentation.
· Identify candidates requiring additional support and provide remedial training.
· Prepare candidates for final assessment and certification.
· Train candidates in employability skills, workplace communication, discipline, teamwork, and customer service.
· Coordinate with the Centre Manager, Training Coordinator, Assessors, and Project Team for smooth implementation of the training program.
· Support placement activities by preparing candidates for employment opportunities with telecom operators, Internet Service Providers, broadband companies, network installation agencies, and telecom infrastructure companies.
Qualification
Candidates should preferably possess one of the following qualifications:
· ITI in Electronics Mechanic
· ITI in Electrician
· ITI in Wireman
· ITI in Information & Communication Technology System Maintenance
· Diploma in Electronics & Communication Engineering
· Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering
· Diploma in Electrical Engineering
· Diploma in Telecommunication Engineering
· B.E. / B.Tech in Electronics, ECE, EEE, Electrical, Telecommunications, or related discipline
· Any other relevant technical qualification with experience in Optical Fiber / Telecom Networks
Experience
· Minimum 5 years of relevant industry and/or training experience in optical fiber installation, FTTH deployment, broadband networks, telecom field operations, or related areas.
· Candidates with hands-on experience in fiber splicing, testing, termination, and troubleshooting will be preferred.
· Experience with telecom operators, ISPs, broadband service providers, network contractors, or telecom infrastructure companies will be an added advantage.
· Previous experience as an Optical Fiber Trainer / FTTH Trainer / Telecom Trainer / Fiber Technician will be preferred.
Required Skills
· Strong knowledge of FTTH/FTTx networks and optical fiber systems.
· Hands-on experience in fusion splicing and fiber termination.
· Good knowledge of fiber testing and fault diagnosis.
· Practical knowledge of OTDR, Optical Power Meter, VFL, and related testing tools.
· Familiarity with ONT/ONU installation and basic broadband configuration.
· Understanding of fiber cable routing, jointing, and distribution networks.
· Knowledge of fiber loss, attenuation, and optical power measurements.
· Ability to conduct practical workshop and field-based training.
· Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
· Knowledge of telecom field safety and PPE requirements.
· Strong classroom management and practical demonstration skills.
· Ability to explain technical concepts in a simple and practical manner.
· Basic computer knowledge including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
· Ability to communicate effectively in Telugu is essential; working knowledge of English and Hindi will be an added advantage.
