A CNC Rover 5XS Operator in the furniture industry is responsible for setting up and running 5-axis CNC machining centers. They translate engineering designs into machine codes to carve, drill, and shape complex wood and composite panels. They ensure high-volume, defect-free production of furniture components while strictly adhering to workplace safety protocols
Key Responsibilities
- Machine Set-Up & Operation: Set up and operate the CNC Rover 5XS to perform precise cutting, drilling, routing, and shaping of timber and composite materials.
- Programming & CAD/CAM Interpretation: Translate technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD designs into accurate machine operations. Program or upload pre-existing programs into the machine’s control systems
- Material Loading & Unloading: Load raw wood panels onto the vacuum beds, ensuring proper alignment, clamping, and zero-point settings to prevent material waste
- Quality Control & Testing: Perform rigorous test runs before production. Inspect finished components for dimensional accuracy, edge quality, and surface finish using precision measuring instruments (calipers, tape measures).
- Tooling Management: Select, inspect, and install the correct cutting tools, saw blades, and aggregate heads for specific operations. Monitor tool wear and replace dull tools to maintain product quality.
- Machine Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform routine daily maintenance (cleaning vacuum beds, lubricating moving parts, checking pneumatic pressures, and clearing dust/waste) to keep the machine running optimally
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all factory safety guidelines. Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), manage dust extraction systems, and maintain a clean, organized work area to prevent workplace hazards
Education, Skills & Requirements
- Experience: Typically 1 to 3 years of experience operating advanced CNC machines (preferably 5-axis routers) within the woodworking or furniture manufacturing sectors.
- Technical Knowledge: High mechanical aptitude, thorough understanding of woodworking properties, and the ability to read and interpret technical blueprints.
- Computer Skills: Familiarity with CNC software (such as bSolid, Mastercam, or similar CAM software), G-code, and machine interface panels.
- Physical & Environmental Demands: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy timber panels and standing for extended periods in a factory environment.
