Department: Digital Water & Distribution
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: As per industry standards
Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced OT Network & Telemetry Engineer to design, deploy, secure, and maintain the communication backbone connecting remote water distribution assets to the Central Control Room (CCR). The role is responsible for managing high-density GPRS/4G/LTE communication networks, OT infrastructure, telemetry systems, and cybersecurity measures to ensure reliable and secure data transmission across geographically dispersed distribution assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the deployment and maintenance of GPRS/4G/LTE communication modems using Private APN SIMs for remote distribution assets, including manholes, valve chambers, and remote pumping facilities.
- Optimize antenna placement and communication performance for installations located in deep manholes, underground chambers, dense urban environments, and challenging field conditions.
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot industrial Ethernet switches, routers, and communication gateways at the CCR and major pumping stations.
- Ensure reliable routing and communication of industrial protocols including Modbus TCP, DNP3, MQTT, and other OT communication standards.
- Install, configure, and maintain SCADA servers, historian servers, domain controllers, virtualization platforms, backup systems, and redundant storage infrastructure within the CCR environment.
- Implement OT cybersecurity controls, including network segmentation based on the Purdue Model, firewall configuration, user access management, and secure remote connectivity solutions.
- Design, deploy, and monitor power systems for remote telemetry panels utilizing solar power and battery backup systems, including Li-ion and Lead Acid technologies.
- Optimize telemetry communication schedules, sleep/wake cycles, and power consumption strategies to maximize battery life at off-grid remote nodes.
- Deploy and manage Network Monitoring Systems (NMS) to monitor communication health, including RSSI, latency, bandwidth utilization, and packet loss metrics.
- Proactively identify and resolve communication failures, network bottlenecks, and telemetry dead zones across the distribution network.
Qualifications
- B.E./B.Tech in Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline.
- 6–10 years of experience in industrial networking, telemetry systems, and OT infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of industrial communication protocols, SCADA networking, and remote telemetry systems.
- Experience with industrial routers, switches, Private APN networks, and OT cybersecurity frameworks.
- CCNA, GICSP, or equivalent industrial networking and cybersecurity certifications are highly preferred.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Telemetry Network Uptime (>99.5%)
- Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) for Network Faults
- Battery Uptime at Remote Nodes
