Solar Installation & Execution Supervisor
Department: Regional Operations & Project Execution
Employment Type: Full-time, field operations, 6-day work week
Location: Chennai (covering Chennai, Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur & Chengalpattu)
Role Overview
We are looking for a hands-on Solar Installation & Execution Supervisor to oversee rooftop installations from site hand-over to commissioning. You'll supervise local technician crews, verify the Bill of Materials, enforce safety/QHSE protocols, and execute meter installation and inverter commissioning — the last checkpoint before a system goes live.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Installation Planning
- Conduct a brief technical site check (shadow analysis, roof access, structural review) ahead of the crew's arrival, flagging any issues early.
- Prepare and finalize the Bill of Materials for each project ahead of procurement, then verify it against what's delivered on-site — correct component specifications, zero material waste.
On-Site Installation Supervision
- Be present on-site for the full duration of each installation; supervise structure mounting, module layout, DC/AC cabling, inverter commissioning, and grid synchronization.
- Coordinate scheduling with the Solar Consultant and subcontractor crews.
Safety & Compliance (QHSE)
- Deliver a safety briefing/toolbox talk before each installation begins, plus a fuller safety induction for any new subcontractor crew joining a project.
- Ensure electrical safety (PPE, standards compliance) and adherence to relevant codes throughout the installation.
- Identify hazards on-site and ensure appropriate control measures are followed.
- If an incident or near-miss occurs, investigate the cause and recommend steps to prevent it happening again.
- Ensure responsible disposal of installation waste and packaging material on-site.
- Flag safety equipment/PPE needs to the Admin, Finance & Operations Executive for procurement.
Quality Assurance
- Test and record key installation parameters (voltage, current, earth resistance, insulation resistance, lightning arrester) as part of quality sign-off.
- Prepare a short quality observation report per installation; regularly inspect crew tools/equipment for safety compliance.
- Maintain photographic and written records of installation quality, near-misses, and safety observations; pass these to the Admin, Finance & Operations Executive for the project file.
- Follow up to confirm any flagged issue is resolved and properly closed out.
Commissioning & DISCOM Coordination
- Assist DISCOM inspectors during physical net-metering site inspections and meter installations.
- Maintain a healthy working relationship with the customer throughout and after commissioning.
- Report installation completion, snags, quality issues, or safety concerns back to the Managing Director and Admin, Finance & Operations Executive.
- As the company builds an in-house installation team, take on managing and directing installers directly.
Key Requirements
Education: ITI Electrician, Diploma in Electrical/Instrumentation/Mechatronics, or a related trade; Suryamitra Certified also considered.
Experience: Prior experience supervising installation, construction, or electrical work is preferred. Freshers from the Suryamitra programme are also considered.
Language: Fluent in Tamil and functional English.
Skills & Competencies
Technical
- Working knowledge of electrical safety standards, PPE protocols, and installation hazards
- Ability to test and measure installation parameters (voltage, current, earth resistance, insulation resistance)

- Comfort with mobile reporting apps/Excel
Behavioral
