Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Head – Microbiology Production to lead microbiology-based production operations and ensure efficient, compliant, and high-quality manufacturing processes. The candidate will be responsible for production planning, team management, process optimization, quality compliance, and achieving production targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage day-to-day microbiology production operations.
- Plan production schedules and ensure timely achievement of production targets.
- Supervise fermentation, microbial culture, inoculation, harvesting, and downstream production processes as applicable.
- Ensure production activities are carried out according to approved SOPs and quality standards.
- Monitor batch processes, yields, productivity, and process parameters.
- Coordinate with Quality Control, Quality Assurance, R&D, Engineering, and other departments.
- Ensure compliance with GMP, GLP, biosafety, hygiene, and regulatory requirements.
- Investigate production deviations, process failures, contamination issues, and implement corrective actions.
- Drive process improvement, yield enhancement, and cost-reduction initiatives.
- Manage production manpower, training, performance, and shift planning.
- Maintain production documentation, batch records, and operational reports.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and utilization of raw materials and cultures.
- Monitor equipment performance and coordinate preventive maintenance with engineering teams.
- Ensure safe handling of microorganisms and compliance with laboratory and production safety protocols.
- Support audits, inspections, validation activities, and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
- B.Sc./M.Sc./B.Tech./M.Tech. in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
- 8–12+ years of relevant experience in microbiology production, fermentation, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or related manufacturing.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of microbial production and fermentation processes.
- Experience in managing production teams and large-scale manufacturing operations.
- Strong understanding of GMP, SOPs, quality systems, and biosafety practices.
- Excellent leadership, analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.
- Strong documentation and reporting abilities.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with cross-functional teams.
