An Electrician in a college hostel is responsible for installing, inspecting, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems and equipment to ensure a safe, reliable, and uninterrupted power supply for students and staff. The electrician carries out preventive and corrective maintenance, responds to electrical complaints, and ensures compliance with electrical safety standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, repair, and maintain electrical wiring, lighting systems, switches, sockets, and distribution boards.
- Inspect electrical systems regularly to identify faults, wear, or potential hazards.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment, including fans, lights, pumps, and water heaters.
- Respond promptly to electrical breakdowns and emergency maintenance requests.
- Perform preventive maintenance to ensure uninterrupted electrical service.
- Monitor and maintain backup power systems, such as generators and UPS units, where applicable.
- Replace defective electrical components and ensure proper functioning of all electrical installations.
- Maintain records of maintenance work, inspections, and repairs.
- Follow electrical safety procedures and comply with applicable codes and regulations.
- Coordinate with the hostel administration and maintenance team to complete electrical work efficiently.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, and maintenance practices.
- Ability to diagnose and repair electrical faults.
- Familiarity with electrical tools, testing instruments, and safety equipment.
- Understanding of electrical safety standards and regulations.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- ITI/Diploma or vocational certification in Electrician trade.
- Valid electrical license/certification, where required by local regulations.
- Relevant experience in electrical maintenance of residential, institutional, or commercial buildings is preferred.
