JOB SUMMARY:
We are looking for an experienced Costing Engineer to prepare accurate cost estimates and quotations for customized industrial and returnable packaging solutions. The candidate will be responsible for understanding customer requirements, studying drawings and specifications, calculating material and manufacturing costs, preparing quotations and coordinating with design, production, purchase and sales teams to ensure commercially viable solutions. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Study customer drawings, specifications, product dimensions and packaging requirements. Prepare detailed cost estimates for new and existing products. Calculate material requirements and material costs for packaging solutions. Estimate manufacturing, fabrication, labour, processing and other associated costs. Prepare Bill of Materials based on product requirements and drawings. Coordinate with design and engineering teams to understand product construction and material requirements. Obtain and evaluate material and component prices from suppliers/vendors. Prepare quotations and commercial cost sheets for customer requirements. Analyze existing costing and identify opportunities for cost reduction. Support the sales team with technical and commercial inputs during quotation preparation. Coordinate with purchase, production and operations teams to validate costing assumptions. Compare estimated costs with actual production costs and identify major variations. Maintain costing databases, material rates and historical costing records. Support new product development and sample costing. Ensure quotations are prepared accurately and within agreed timelines. Participate in value engineering and cost optimization initiatives. REQUIRED SKILLS: Strong knowledge of cost estimation and product costing. Ability to read and understand engineering drawings. Good understanding of materials, manufacturing and fabrication processes. Knowledge of Bill of Materials and material consumption calculations. Strong MS Excel skills for costing and data analysis. Good numerical and analytical skills. Strong attention to detail. Good communication and coordination skills. Ability to work with Sales, Design, Purchase and Production teams. Knowledge of vendor pricing and market rates will be an advantage. PREFERRED INDUSTRIES: Automotive Packaging Industrial Packaging Returnable Packaging Sheet Metal / Fabrication Plastic Products Automotive Components Engineering Manufacturing EDUCATION: Diploma / Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. CANDIDATE PROFILE: Candidates with 4+ years of experience in costing, estimation, quotation preparation, product costing or commercial engineering roles will be preferred. Candidates from automotive, industrial packaging, engineering manufacturing, fabrication or automotive component companies will be an advantage.
