The Lead Carpenter is responsible for executing high-quality woodworking, joinery, and structural fabrication. This role involves selecting appropriate timbers, reading design blueprints, operating machinery safely, and carving or assembling structural and decorative woodwork. The Lead Carpenter also mentors and directs the Carpenter’s Helper to ensure workshop efficiency and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Fabrication & Joinery: Cut, shape, and assemble wood structures, furniture, frames, or master bases using traditional joinery techniques (dovetail, mortise and tenon) and modern fasteners.
- Material Selection: Evaluate wood stock for quality, grain patterns, moisture content, and suitability for specific structural or carving projects.
- Precision Machining: Safely operate and maintain workshop machinery, including band saws, table saws, routers, planers, and thicknessers.
- Fine Finishing: Prepare wood surfaces through precise planing, scraping, and sanding; apply structural or decorative finishes like oils, waxes, or sealants.
- Team Leadership: Direct the daily tasks of the Carpenter’s Helper, ensuring materials are prepared correctly and safety protocols are strictly followed.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: 3–5 years of professional experience in finish carpentry, fine woodworking, or furniture making.
- Technical Skill: Deep knowledge of wood properties, grain direction, seasoning, and traditional joinery. Ability to work accurately from technical drawings or 3D model dimensions.
- Tool Proficiency: Mastery of both stationary power tools and fine hand tools (chisels, hand planes, measuring gauges).
Pay: ₹12,500.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
