Role Purpose: The Site EHS Lead will be responsible for leading and managing all Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) aspects of a large-scale Green Hydrogen project. The role spans across construction, commissioning, and operational readiness, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and establishing a strong safety culture aligned with global standards. Site EHS Lead shall closely work with Site Construction Manager and Head-EHS to implement EHS & Sustainability initiatives in the project site.
Key Responsibilities:
Construction phase: Lead EHS governance across multiple EPC contractors, ensuring strict adherence to site safety protocols. Manage safety in high-density manpower environments with strong contractor control and supervision.
Oversee critical high-risk activities: Heavy lifting & rigging, Working at heights & scaffolding, Excavation & confined space entry.
Drive implementation of Safety induction & training programs, Incident reporting, investigation & RCA, Safety audits, inspections, and KPIs.
Commissioning Phase: Lead Process Safety Management (PSM) implementation across all systems. Conduct & lead Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR) for Electrolyser Stacks, Gas separation & Purification units (EPU), Hydrogen & Oxygen Compression & storage systems.
Oversee high-risk commissioning activities - Electrical energization (HT/LT systems), Pressure & leak testing (pneumatic/hydro), Nitrogen purging and inerting.
Ensure strict compliance with Permit to Work (PTW) systems and Lock-Out Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures.
Operations Readiness Phase: Develop and implement site-wide EHS Management Systems -ISO 14001 (Environmental) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety).
Manage process safety risks involving: Hydrogen (flammability/explosion risks), Oxygen handling, Corrosive electrolytes (KOH) and Water treatment chemicals.
Ensure compliance and regulatory liaison with: State Pollution Control Board (SPCB), PESO (Chief Controller of Explosives)
Drive long-term safety culture transformation and continuous improvement programs.
