Job Description: Assistant Accountant

About the Role
We are looking for a detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to support our finance and accounts function. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with day-to-day bookkeeping, GST/tax compliance, vendor and inventory reconciliation, and month-end closing activities typical of a manufacturing or trading business. This role works closely with the Accounts Manager to ensure accurate financial records and timely reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain books of accounts including purchase, sales, journal, and bank entries in Tally/ERP
- Process accounts payable and receivable, including vendor invoices, payments, and customer collections
- Reconcile bank statements, vendor ledgers, and customer accounts on a regular basis
- Manage inventory accounting, including stock valuation and coordination with the stores/production team
- Prepare and file GST returns (GSTR-1, GSTR-3B), TDS returns, and assist with other statutory compliances
- Assist in month-end and year-end closing, including journal entries, accruals, and provisions
- Support preparation of MIS reports, cash flow statements, and budget variance analysis
- Coordinate with internal and statutory auditors during audits and provide required documentation
- Track fixed assets, depreciation schedules, and capital expenditure records
- Ensure proper documentation and filing of financial records as per company policy and statutory requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Accounting, or Finance (B.Com / M.Com); semi-qualified CA/CMA preferred but not mandatory
- 2–5 years of relevant experience in accounting, preferably within a manufacturing or trading company
- Strong working knowledge of Tally ERP / SAP / other accounting software
- Sound understanding of GST, TDS, and other applicable statutory compliances in India
- Good understanding of inventory and cost accounting concepts relevant to manufacturing operations
Preferred Skills
- Experience with stock/inventory reconciliation and standard costing
- Exposure to import/export documentation and related compliance (for trading businesses)
- Familiarity with bank reconciliation and treasury operations
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping
- Good communication skills to coordinate with vendors, internal teams, and auditors
