The NPD Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, validating, and launching new products from concept through mass production. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams including Design, Manufacturing, Quality, Procurement, Sales, and Suppliers to ensure products meet customer requirements, quality standards, cost targets, and project timelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead new product development projects from concept to production.
- Develop product designs using CAD software.
- Prepare engineering drawings, BOMs (Bill of Materials), and technical documentation.
- Conduct feasibility studies and design reviews.
- Coordinate prototype development and testing.
- Perform Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and risk assessments.
- Work with manufacturing teams to ensure design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA).
- Support tooling development and process validation.
- Coordinate with suppliers for new components and tooling.
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Analyze test data and implement design improvements.
- Support pilot production and product launch activities.
- Resolve engineering issues during product development and production.
- Participate in cost reduction and value engineering initiatives.
- Maintain engineering change documentation (ECR/ECN).
- Provide technical support to Quality, Production, and Customer teams.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- 2–5 years of experience in New Product Development or Product Design (adjust based on the role level).
- Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, or AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, sheet metal, injection molding, casting, or fabrication.
- Understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, and engineering drawings.
- Knowledge of APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, and SPC is preferred.
- Experience with prototype development and validation testing.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 and/or IATF 16949 is an advantage.
