Job Summary:
The CSSD Technician is responsible for the cleaning, disinfection, inspection, packing, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments, medical devices, and hospital supplies. The role ensures compliance with infection prevention and quality standards while supporting uninterrupted patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receive, sort, and decontaminate used surgical instruments and medical equipment.
- Clean instruments manually and using automated washer disinfectors as per hospital protocols.
- Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and damage before packaging.
- Assemble surgical instrument sets according to standardized checklists.
- Pack and label instruments using appropriate sterilization materials.
- Operate sterilization equipment such as steam autoclaves, ETO sterilizers, plasma sterilizers, and washer disinfectors.
- Monitor and document sterilization cycles using physical, chemical, and biological indicators.
- Maintain accurate sterilization records and documentation.
- Store sterile supplies according to infection control guidelines.
- Issue sterile instruments and consumables to Operation Theatres, ICUs, wards, and other departments.
- Monitor inventory levels and report shortages or damaged instruments.
- Ensure preventive maintenance and cleanliness of CSSD equipment.
- Follow hospital infection prevention and biomedical waste management policies.
- Comply with NABH, JCI, and other applicable quality standards.
- Participate in departmental audits, quality improvement initiatives, and training programs.
- Report equipment malfunctions and incidents to the supervisor immediately.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to patient safety standards.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Certificate in CSSD Technology / Operation Theatre Technology / Sterilization Technology.
- B.Sc. in Operation Theatre Technology (preferred).
- Certification in CSSD or Infection Control is an added advantage.
Experience:
- 1–3 years of experience in a hospital CSSD.
- Freshers with relevant qualifications may also be considered.
Required Skills & Competencies:
- Knowledge of sterilization principles and infection control.
- Familiarity with surgical instruments and medical equipment.
- Ability to operate autoclaves, ETO, plasma sterilizers, and washer disinfectors.
- Understanding of sterile processing standards.
- Good documentation and record-keeping skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work in shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Basic computer knowledge for maintaining records.
Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
