GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF ROLE:
This role is part of the View of Risk Advisory team, with a focus on catastrophe modeling and vulnerability analysis for atmospheric and other natural perils (e.g., wind, severe convective storm, earthquake, etc.), in support of Aon’s evaluation of licensed catastrophe models in the U.S., Canada, and Latin America.
In this role, you’ll bring hands-on experience working with data, whether through coursework, projects, or industry experience. Familiarity with tools like SQL, R, Python, GIS, or Tableau is a plus, especially if you’ve used them to analyze, clean, or validate data in real-world or academic settings. We’re looking for curious minds who enjoy turning information into insight. This is a hands-on analytical role suited to candidates with strong quantitative backgrounds who enjoy working with data, coding, and applied research, and who are eager to learn about catastrophe risk, insurance, and reinsurance.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

Run catastrophe modeling software to analyze client, industry, and notional portfolios to support Aon’s evaluation of licensed catastrophe models in the U.S., Canada, and Latin America under the direction of the View of Risk Advisory Peril Leads.

Support model validation activities, including sensitivity testing, scenario analysis, and back-testing against historical events and claims.

Analyze large datasets (including exposure, hazard, and loss data) to identify key drivers of catastrophe losses and model differences.

Interact with claims data and publicly available data sources from NOAA, USGS, and USFS to validate catastrophe model components.

Translate complex technical findings into clear, concise insights, visualizations, and reports for internal stakeholders and external clients.

Digest and summarize technical information from catastrophe model documentation or other scientific research papers.
MANDATORY SKILLS:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of catastrophe models, insurance and reinsurance concepts.

At least a Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Structural/Civil Engineering, Atmospheric Science, Earth/Environmental Science, or another technical/analytical discipline

Strong academic performance with demonstrated quantitative and analytical strength.

Demonstrated experience working with data, either through coursework, research projects, or industry experience (e.g., handling large datasets, building models, or performing advanced statistical/engineering analyses).

Proficiency in at least one of the following: Python, R, SQL, MATLAB, or other similar scientific computing languages. Experience with Databricks is beneficial, but not mandatory.

Some exposure to insurance/reinsurance or risk management concepts is a plus, but not mandatory.
