About the Role
We are looking for a React Native developer to build and maintain mobile applications across several active product lines. This is a hands-on role with real ownership - you will take features from design through to release on both Android and iOS.
The work spans multiple domains, so you will not be building the same screen twice. Current and upcoming products include a platform for the education sector, a property and real estate platform, and a voice-driven AI application. You should be comfortable moving between different problem spaces and picking up new domains quickly.
Please note: we are looking for someone who has already shipped. Applications must include links to live apps you have built and released on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, test and ship cross-platform mobile applications using React Native for both Android and iOS.
- Translate designs into clean, responsive, pixel-accurate screens - including building screens from scratch where designs are minimal or absent.
- Integrate mobile applications with backend APIs (REST and GraphQL) and handle data fetching, caching and offline states.
- Implement authentication, role-based access, push notifications, and device-level features (camera, location, media, permissions) as required.
- Work with voice and audio features for the voice AI product - recording, playback, streaming and real-time interaction.
- Manage app state cleanly using established patterns and keep the codebase typed, modular and maintainable.
- Own the release process end to end on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store - builds, signing, versioning, store listings and updates.
- Debug, profile and optimise performance across a range of devices.
- Collaborate with backend, design and product to deliver features end to end.
- Participate in code review and contribute to engineering standards.
AI-Assisted Development
We build with modern AI tooling as a standard part of our workflow, and we expect this role to use it well.
- Proficient with AI-assisted coding tools, in particular Claude Code, and able to use them effectively for scaffolding, refactoring, debugging and shipping faster.
- Able to write clear, well-structured prompts and specifications, and to review and correct AI-generated code rather than accepting it blindly.
- Understands where AI tooling helps and where it does not, and applies judgement accordingly.
Important: AI tooling is an accelerator, not a substitute for skill. You must be able to design and build screens, components and features entirely on your own - reading a design or a requirement and writing the code from scratch - when AI assistance is unavailable, unsuitable or simply not the right tool for the task. Candidates should be comfortable demonstrating this.
Required Skills
- Strong hands-on experience with React Native and the wider React ecosystem.
- Solid JavaScript and TypeScript.
- Experience consuming REST and GraphQL APIs in mobile applications.
- State management (Redux Toolkit, Zustand, React Query or similar).
- Navigation patterns (React Navigation) and component architecture.
- Styling and responsive layout across varied screen sizes and both platforms.
- Git and standard collaborative development workflow.
- Live shipped applications on both the Google Play Store (Android) and the Apple App Store (iOS). You must be able to share links to apps you have personally built and released.
- Hands-on experience with the full release process on both platforms: builds, signing, certificates and provisioning, store listings, review submission and updates.
- Ability to read a design file (Figma or similar) and implement it accurately.
Good to Have
- Experience with audio, voice or real-time streaming features.
- Exposure to native modules (Swift / Kotlin) and bridging when needed.
- Familiarity with Expo and bare React Native workflows.
- Testing experience (Jest, React Native Testing Library, Detox) and CI/CD for mobile (Fastlane, EAS, GitHub Actions).
- Basic backend familiarity (Node.js) to debug across the stack.
- An eye for UI/UX detail and interest in design quality.
