About the Role
Maati Earthcraft is looking for a hands-on Boutique Fashion Designer & Garment Stitching Specialist with strong practical knowledge of garment construction, stitching, alterations, finishing, and fabric handling.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both designing and making garments. The selected candidate should be comfortable working directly with fabrics, sewing machines, tailoring tools, patterns, measurements, and garment finishing.
This is a practical, execution-focused role. Candidates must have genuine hands-on stitching and garment-making skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop ethnic, contemporary, fusion, and handcrafted apparel concepts.
- Stitch, construct, alter, and finish garments independently.
- Convert design ideas, sketches, references, and concepts into wearable garments.
- Take and understand garment measurements accurately.
- Execute basic cuts, patterns, garment construction, and fitting requirements.
- Handle customisation and client-specific design requirements.
- Operate sewing machines and other tailoring tools efficiently.
- Ensure neat stitching, accurate finishing, proper fitting, and high-quality garment presentation.
- Work with different fabrics and understand their handling, fall, texture, and construction requirements.
- Make alterations and modifications based on fitting and design requirements.
- Support the development of new silhouettes, experimental designs, and boutique collections.
- Maintain attention to detail throughout the design and stitching process.
Mandatory Skills
- Strong practical garment stitching and tailoring skills.
- Ability to independently stitch and complete garments.
- Good understanding of garment construction and finishing.
- Knowledge of measurements, basic cuts, patterns, and fitting.
- Ability to operate sewing machines and tailoring equipment.
- Good knowledge of fabric handling and garment finishing techniques.
- Ability to perform alterations and modifications.
- Strong attention to detail and neatness in stitching.
Preferred Skills
- Diploma, certificate, or formal training in Fashion Design, Apparel Design, Tailoring, Garment Making, or a related field.
- Knowledge of ethnic, handcrafted, sustainable, contemporary, or fusion fashion.
- Experience with embroidery, surface ornamentation, handwork, or textile detailing.
- Ability to sketch or visualise garment concepts.
- Understanding of current fashion trends and styling aesthetics.
- Creativity in developing unique silhouettes and garment details.
- Experience working with boutique, custom, made-to-order, or designer garments.
Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for a maker and creator—someone who can take an idea from concept to finished garment.
Candidates who are primarily interested in fashion illustration or styling but do not have practical stitching and garment construction skills may not be suitable for this role.
Freshers are welcome if they can demonstrate strong practical ability through:
- Photos of stitched garments
- Previous tailoring or boutique work
- Design projects
- Portfolio samples
- Practical garment-making experience
