Job Summary
We are looking for a skilled and hardworking Pastry Commis I Chef to join our bakery and pastry team. The candidate should have good basic knowledge of pastry, bakery, desserts, cakes, plating, and kitchen hygiene.
The Pastry Commis I Chef will assist the senior chefs in daily preparation, production, baking, finishing, and presentation of desserts and bakery items. The candidate should be disciplined, willing to learn, and able to work smoothly in a busy restaurant or bakery kitchen.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of cakes, pastries, desserts, breads, cookies, muffins, tarts, sauces, creams, and other bakery items.
- Follow standard recipes, portion sizes, preparation methods, and presentation standards.
- Support the senior pastry chef in daily mise en place and production planning.
- Ensure proper baking, cooling, storage, finishing, and garnishing of products.
- Maintain consistency in taste, texture, quality, and presentation.
- Handle basic pastry equipment such as ovens, mixers, weighing scales, moulds, trays, piping bags, and refrigeration units.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the pastry section at all times.
- Follow food safety, storage, labelling, FIFO, and temperature control standards.
- Check raw materials and inform seniors about shortage, wastage, or quality issues.
- Assist in plating desserts during service as per restaurant standards.
- Help with stock checking, basic inventory, and daily kitchen closing duties.
- Coordinate with the kitchen team for smooth service operations.
- Follow instructions given by the Pastry Chef, Sous Chef, and Head Chef.
Required Skills
- Basic knowledge of bakery and pastry production.
- Understanding of cakes, creams, desserts, doughs, batters, and chocolate work.
- Ability to follow recipes and maintain consistency.
- Good speed, cleanliness, and discipline in the kitchen.
- Basic knowledge of food hygiene and safety standards.
- Ability to work under pressure during busy service hours.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Team player with good communication skills.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience in bakery, pastry, hotel, café, restaurant, or cloud kitchen.
- Hotel Management or Bakery/Pastry course preferred but not compulsory.
- Should be comfortable with early morning or split shifts if required.
- Must be punctual, hardworking, and hygiene-focused.
- Experience in desserts, cakes, breads, and basic plating will be preferred.
