The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the engineering, design, and development of mechanical systems including storage tanks, pressure vessels, piping systems, pumps, valves, and associated equipment. The role involves preparing engineering calculations, detailed design drawings, 3D/BIM models, material specifications, and construction documents while ensuring compliance with international codes, project specifications, and client requirements.
Key ResponsibilitiesMechanical Design
- Design atmospheric and low-pressure storage tanks.
- Design pressure vessels, separators, and process equipment.
- Prepare equipment layouts and mechanical GA drawings.
- Perform equipment sizing and mechanical calculations.
- Prepare fabrication and construction drawings.
- Review vendor drawings and technical documents.
- Coordinate with Civil, Structural, Electrical, Instrumentation, and Process Engineering teams.
Piping Engineering
- Develop piping layouts and routing.
- Prepare Piping General Arrangement (GA) drawings.
- Prepare Isometric Drawings.
- Generate Material Take-Off (MTO) and Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Prepare Pipe Support Drawings.
- Conduct piping flexibility and stress coordination.
- Review piping specifications and line lists.
Pumps & Valves
- Select pumps based on process requirements.
- Prepare pump installation layouts.
- Review pump performance curves.
- Select manual and automated valves.
- Prepare valve schedules.
- Coordinate with equipment vendors for technical approvals.
Tanks & Pressure Vessels
- Design welded storage tanks.
- Prepare shell course, roof, bottom, nozzle, and manway drawings.
- Review fabrication details.
- Coordinate hydrotest and inspection requirements.
- Ensure compliance with API and ASME standards.
BIM / 3D Modeling
- Develop intelligent 3D mechanical models.
- Create piping, equipment, and plant layouts.
- Perform clash detection.
- Generate construction drawings from BIM models.
- Maintain model coordination with multidisciplinary teams.
- Participate in model review meetings.
Engineering Documentation
- Mechanical Data Sheets.
- Equipment Specifications.
- Material Requisitions (MR).
- Technical Bid Evaluations (TBE).
- Design Calculations.
- Inspection and Test Requirements.
- As-built Drawings.
- Design Reports.
Site Support
- Resolve design-related site issues.

Educational Qualification
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.E./B.Tech).
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering may be considered for experienced candidates.
Experience
- 5–12 years of experience in Mechanical Design Engineering.
- Experience in EPC, Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Refinery, Tank Farm, Industrial Plants, or Water Treatment projects.
- Proven experience in tank, vessel, piping, pump, and valve engineering.
- Hands-on experience with BIM modeling and multidisciplinary coordination.
