Position: VMC Setter
Reporting To: Production Supervisor / Machine Shop In-charge
Job Purpose
To independently set up and operate VMC machines, ensure components are produced as per drawings and quality standards, and achieve production targets with minimum rejection and downtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform complete VMC machine setting, including fixture, tool and job setting.
- Set tool offsets, work offsets, datum points and cutting parameters.
- Read and understand engineering drawings, process sheets and control plans.
- Select suitable cutting tools, inserts, holders, fixtures and gauges.
- Conduct machine trial and obtain first-piece approval from Quality.
- Operate VMC machines and monitor machining operations.
- Make minor program corrections under authorized supervision.
- Inspect components using Vernier caliper, micrometer, height gauge, bore gauge, depth gauge and other measuring instruments.
- Maintain specified dimensions, tolerances, surface finish and cycle time.
- Carry out tool-change management and monitor tool life.
- Identify and correct machining problems such as dimensional variation, chatter, tool wear and improper surface finish.
- Ensure production output according to the daily production plan.
- Record production quantity, rejection, downtime and tool consumption.
- Follow control plans, SOPs, work instructions and quality requirements.
- Support new-component development and prove-out activities.
- Perform basic preventive maintenance and daily machine checks.
- Maintain 5S, cleanliness and proper material identification at the workplace.
- Follow all PPE, safety, ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 requirements.
- Immediately report abnormalities, breakdowns and quality concerns to the supervisor.
- Minimize rejection, rework, tool breakage and machine idle time.
Required Qualification
- ITI – Machinist, Turner, Fitter or CNC Operator; or
- Diploma in Mechanical/Production Engineering.
Experience
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience in VMC machine setting and operation.
- Experience in automotive, aluminium die-casting or precision-machining components is preferred.
Technical Skills
- Independent VMC machine setting.
- Knowledge of Fanuc, Siemens, Mitsubishi or similar controllers.
- Understanding of G-codes, M-codes, tool offsets and work offsets.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and GD&T symbols.
- Knowledge of cutting speed, feed, depth of cut and machining parameters.
- Hands-on experience with measuring instruments and inspection gauges.
- Knowledge of drilling, tapping, milling, boring and reaming operations.
- Basic knowledge of CNC/VMC programming and program correction.
- Familiarity with 4th-axis operation will be an added advantage.

Pay: ₹13,542.62 - ₹35,614.85 per month
