We are a growing manufacturing firm looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Machine Operator to manage our brand-new, high-precision 3D printing filament extrusion line. In this role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end operation of the extrusion machinery—from raw material loading and temperature configuration to monitoring diameter tolerances and winding the final product.
If you have a background in plastic processing (pipe, sheet, or profile extrusion) and a passion for precision manufacturing, we want you on our founding production team.
Key Responsibilities
- Machine Setup & Operation: Set up, calibrate, and operate plastic extrusion machinery and auxiliary equipment (hoppers, dehumidifying dryers, water cooling baths, laser diameter gauges, and automatic spoolers).
- Process Monitoring: Monitor and adjust machine parameters—such as barrel/die temperature zones, screw speed, and haul-off speed—to ensure stable production of materials like PLA, PETG, and PCTG.
- Quality Control: Ensure strict adherence to precision dimensional standards (e.g., maintaining a consistent 1.75mm diameter within a ±0.02mm tolerance). Use digital calipers and online gauge data to spot and correct deviations immediately.
- Material Handling: Correctly mix raw polymer pellets with masterbatch colorants according to specific formulations.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve routine production issues, such as filament breaks, ovality, surface defects, or fluctuating dimensions.
- Maintenance & Safety: Perform basic preventative maintenance on machinery, keep logs of production data/downtime, and maintain a clean, safe workspace.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: ITI, Diploma in Mechanical/Plastics Engineering, CIPET certification, or equivalent practical experience in polymer processing.
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience operating plastic extrusion lines. Direct experience with 3D printing filament manufacturing is a massive advantage.
- Technical Knowledge: Good understanding of polymer behavior, temperature profiles, and how moisture affects raw materials.
- Attributes: Sharp attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to maintaining high quality standards.
