The operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring Vertical Machining Centers (VMC) and Horizontal Machining Centers (HMC) to precisely machine raw metal castings (such as iron )into finished components according to engineering drawings and tight tolerances.
Key Responsibilities
- Machine Setup & Operation: Load heavy raw castings into the VMC/HMC. Select, install, and adjust cutting tools, workpieces, and fixtures based on job requirements. [1, 2, 3, 4]
- Program Execution: Enter and adjust tool offsets, reference points, and cutting parameters. Manage G-code and M-code settings for optimal machining. [1, 2, 3]
- Quality Control: Inspect finished cast parts for accuracy. Use precision measuring instruments like Vernier calipers, micrometers, and gauges. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
- Defect Management: Identify and troubleshoot casting defects (e.g., blowholes, porosity) or machining errors to prevent scrap and rework. [1, 2]
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform routine preventive maintenance and clean the machinery to ensure smooth operation. [1, 2]
- Safety & Workplace: Adhere to safety protocols, use proper personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain 5S standards.
