Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced DTP Operator / Book Designer with a strong background in K–12 educational publishing. The ideal candidate must have previously worked in a publishing house and possess hands-on experience in designing and formatting school textbooks according to curriculum requirements.
The candidate should be proficient in page layout, typography, image placement, and preparing print-ready files while maintaining consistency and high production standards. Attention to detail, speed, and accuracy are essential for this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and format K–12 school textbooks, workbooks, teachers' manuals, assessment books, and supplementary educational materials.
- Create clean, attractive, and child-friendly page layouts that align with educational objectives.
- Apply consistent styles, grids, templates, typography, and colour schemes throughout publications.
- Place and format text, tables, illustrations, photographs, icons, and infographics accurately.
- Ensure proper pagination, margins, bleed settings, crop marks, and print specifications.
- Prepare press-ready PDF files and final production files for commercial printing.
- Modify existing textbook layouts based on editorial feedback and author corrections.
- Coordinate with editors, illustrators, proofreaders, and production teams to meet project deadlines.
- Ensure all artwork and layouts comply with publisher branding and design standards.
- Handle corrections efficiently during multiple proof stages.
- Organize and maintain project files, fonts, linked images, and version control.
- Check final files for layout errors, missing fonts, low-resolution images, overset text, and colour issues before release.
Required Technical Skills
- Advanced knowledge of Adobe InDesign (Mandatory)
- Strong working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator
- Good knowledge of Adobe Photoshop
- Understanding of print production processes and pre-press requirements
- Excellent typography and page composition skills
- Experience in creating print-ready PDFs
- Ability to work with paragraph styles, character styles, master pages, object styles, tables, anchored objects, and indexing
- Knowledge of CMYK colour mode, bleed, margins, and printing specifications
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with educational publishing workflows
- Experience working on books aligned with CBSE, ICSE, State Boards, or international curricula
- Ability to understand editorial markup and implement corrections accurately
- Basic illustration or infographic editing skills will be an advantage.
Mandatory Experience
Applicants must have prior experience working in a school textbook publishing house.
