Job Purpose
To manage end-to-end procurement of raw materials, consumables, tooling, and services required by the foundry and machine shop. The Purchase Officer is responsible for sourcing reliable suppliers, negotiating favourable commercial terms, raising and tracking purchase orders, and ensuring materials are delivered on time, at the right quality, and at optimal cost.
Key Roles & ResponsibilitiesSourcing & Negotiation
- Identify, evaluate, and develop suppliers for foundry and machine shop requirements.
- Float enquiries (RFQs), collect quotations, and prepare comparative statements.
- Negotiate price, payment terms, delivery schedules, and warranty/guarantee conditions to secure the best total cost of ownership.
- Build and maintain a panel of approved/alternate vendors to reduce dependency and supply risk.
Purchase Order Management
- Raise purchase orders (POs) accurately in the ERP/system for both the foundry and machine shop, based on approved indents/requisitions.
- Ensure POs capture correct specifications, quantity, rate, taxes (GST/HSN), delivery date, and terms.
- Obtain required approvals as per the company’s delegation-of-authority matrix.
- Track open POs, follow up on pending deliveries, and expedite urgent/critical items.
- Manage amendments, cancellations, and PO closures.
Vendor & Relationship Management
- Maintain strong working relationships with key suppliers and resolve supply issues.
- Monitor vendor performance on quality, delivery, and price; conduct periodic vendor rating/review.
- Coordinate with new vendors for sample approvals and trial orders.
Foundry-Specific Procurement
- Source raw materials such as pig iron, steel/cast iron scrap, ferroalloys (FeSi, FeMn, etc.), and inoculants.
- Procure foundry consumables: moulding/core sand, resins and binders, coke, fluxes, refractories, crucibles, ladles, and patterns.
- Coordinate procurement of chemicals and additives used in melting, moulding, and core-making.
Machine Shop-Specific Procurement
- Procure cutting tools and tooling: inserts, drills, taps, end mills, reamers, tool holders, and collets.
- Source raw stock such as bar stock, castings, and forgings for machining.
- Procure coolants, lubricants, hydraulic/pneumatic components, fixtures, jigs, gauges, and measuring instruments.
- Arrange spares and consumables for CNC, VMC, lathes, and other machine tools.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work closely with stores/inventory to monitor stock levels, reorder points, and avoid stock-outs or excess inventory.
- Coordinate with production/planning to align purchases with production schedules.
- Liaise with quality/QC on incoming material rejections, deviations, and corrective action with suppliers.
- Coordinate with accounts/finance on GRN reconciliation, invoice verification, and timely vendor payments.
Documentation, Compliance & Reporting
- Maintain accurate purchase records, contracts, rate agreements, and vendor documentation.
- Ensure procurement complies with company policy, tax/statutory requirements, and audit norms.
- Prepare periodic MIS/reports on purchases, cost savings, pending orders, and vendor performance.
Cost Control
- Drive cost-reduction initiatives through negotiation, alternate sourcing, bulk/annual rate contracts, and value engineering inputs.
- Monitor market price trends for key commodities (metals, scrap, ferroalloys) to time purchases effectively.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education: Diploma/Degree in Mechanical/Production/Metallurgical Engineering, or a degree in Commerce/Business with relevant purchase experience.
Experience: 5 years in procurement, preferably in a foundry, machine shop, or engineering/manufacturing environment.
Technical Knowledge:
- Understanding of foundry raw materials and machining tools/consumables.
- Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and drawings.
- Working knowledge of GST, taxation, and procurement documentation.
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Tally, or similar).
Soft Skills:
- Strong negotiation and communication skills.
- Analytical and cost-conscious mindset.
- Good vendor-management and relationship-building ability.
Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹27,500.00 per month
Work Location: In person
