Job Description
The Special Educator will be responsible for supporting students with special educational needs and disabilities by developing individualized learning strategies, facilitating inclusive classroom practices, monitoring student progress, and collaborating with teachers, parents, and other professionals to ensure the student's academic, social, emotional, and overall development.
Key Responsibilities
1. Student Assessment & Identification
- Identify students who require additional academic, behavioural, or developmental support.
- Conduct appropriate screening and educational assessments to understand individual learning needs.
- Maintain confidential records of student assessments, interventions, and progress.
- Identify students' strengths, challenges, and areas requiring intervention.
2. Individualized Education Programme (IEP)
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) based on the student's specific needs.
- Set achievable academic, behavioural, communication, and developmental goals.
- Review and update IEPs periodically based on student progress.
- Track and document the effectiveness of intervention strategies.
3. Academic & Remedial Support
- Provide individual and small-group remedial sessions.
- Adapt teaching-learning materials and classroom activities according to students' needs.
- Use differentiated teaching strategies and appropriate learning resources.
- Support students with learning difficulties, developmental delays, autism spectrum conditions, ADHD, intellectual disabilities, and other identified special educational needs.
- Assist students in developing foundational academic, communication, social, and life skills.
4. Classroom Inclusion
- Collaborate with mainstream teachers to ensure effective inclusion of students with special needs.
- Recommend appropriate curriculum adaptations, accommodations, and assessment modifications.
- Guide teachers on effective strategies for supporting diverse learners.
- Promote a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
CBSE's inclusive education guidance specifically emphasizes collaboration between Special Educators and classroom teachers in lesson planning, curriculum adaptation, implementation, and assessment.
5. Parent & Stakeholder Coordination
- Conduct regular meetings with parents to discuss student progress and areas of concern.
- Provide parents with appropriate guidance and home-based intervention strategies.
- Coordinate with counsellors, psychologists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other professionals wherever required.
- Maintain effective communication with the academic team and school leadership.
6. Behavioural & Social-Emotional Support
- Develop appropriate behavioural intervention strategies.
- Support students in improving communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, and self-management skills.
- Promote positive behaviour through structured and child-friendly interventions.
- Assist teachers in managing behavioural concerns in an inclusive classroom environment.
7. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain student profiles, assessment reports, IEPs, intervention records, and progress reports.
- Prepare periodic reports on student development and intervention outcomes.
- Maintain records related to students with special educational needs as required by the school.
- Ensure confidentiality of student information.
8. Teacher Sensitization & Training
- Conduct awareness sessions for teachers and staff on inclusive education.
- Train teachers on classroom accommodations, differentiated instruction, and appropriate intervention strategies.
- Promote awareness and sensitivity towards students with special needs among students and staff.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's/Master's degree in Special Education / Rehabilitation / Psychology / related field, as applicable.
- RCI-recognized qualification and valid RCI registration as applicable to the role.
- Candidates should meet the applicable qualification requirements prescribed by CBSE and the Rehabilitation Council of India.
Experience
- 2–5 years of relevant experience as a Special Educator, preferably in a CBSE/ICSE/International school.
- Experience in working with students across different age groups and diverse learning needs will be preferred.
- Freshers with the required professional qualification may also be considered based on the school's requirements.
Pay: ₹23,000.00 - ₹33,000.00 per month
