O. T. functions
1. To ensure that the correct patient has been brought for surgery.
2. To assist in transfer of patient from trolley to operation table.
3. To apply all monitoring devices as per O. T. norms.
4. To assist Anaesthetist in securing a venous access if required.
5. To ensure that fresh cleansing lotion is available prior to surgery.
6. To assist the surgeon to gown up.
7. To write on the OT blackboard the list of instruments, gauzes, mops as dictated by scrub nurse & the HIV, HBsAg and HCV status of the patient as cleared by Anaesthetist.
8. To ensure that the patient has been properly positioned for the surgery.
9. To accurately and safely use all patient positioning devices and tables.
10. To indicate to the nurse in the ward on maintenance of a patent airway.
Operation and maintenance of Equipment
1. To supervise proper cleaning of instruments and their subsequent storage.
2. To ensure safe keeping of expensive instruments.
3. To help Anaesthetist in maintaining a record of all drugs used during surgery.
4. To inform O. T. in-charge of unserviceable equipment and ensure that they do not appear on the table at the time of surgery.
5. To keep all instruments ready for use in the O. T.
6. To ensure that all equipment is in optimum working condition.
7. To route non-functional equipment to proper maintenance department for repair, noting on equipment what the malfunction appears to be. Assist in minor maintenance functions (i.e. replace light bulbs in power sources and surgical lights). Set up and troubleshoot all equipment in service line and 85% of all equipment in other services.
8. To carry out specialised cleaning of equipment where indicated.
9. To carry out disinfection or decontamination of equipment prior to sterilization where indicated.
10. To inspect and test equipments for serviceability.
11. To transport specimen, equipment, etc. to appropriate area in safe and efficient manner.
Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹25,000.00 per month
