An embedded hardware engineer specializing in vehicle control systems, battery management systems (BMS), and motor controllers is responsible for designing, prototyping, and testing electronic hardware that enables safe, reliable, and high-performance automotive functionality.
Core Responsibilities
- Design and develop hardware components for embedded automotive systems, focusing on microcontrollers, sensors, actuators, and power management circuits for vehicle controls and battery management.
- Develop and optimize PCB layouts and schematics using industry-standard tools (Altium, Eagle) for motor controllers, BMS, and safety monitoring modules.
- Collaborate with embedded software engineers for hardware-software integration and real-time diagnostics.
- Conduct hardware testing, validation, and debugging to meet reliability, performance, and automotive safety standards.
- Document hardware designs, development processes, and testing outcomes to support certification and compliance efforts.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in schematic design, PCB layout, and troubleshooting tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers).
- Experience with microcontrollers, analog/digital circuit design, and automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, SPI, RS-232, RS-485).
- Understanding of system-level hazards, automotive industry standards, and product engineering requirements.
- Ability to support prototyping, product test models, and manufacturing process improvements for cost and quality optimization.
Typical Duties
- Create hardware solutions for propulsion, regenerative braking, and battery safety applications in vehicles.
- Integrate embedded hardware for vehicle controls and IoT applications, ensuring robust connectivity and data security.
- Work with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, software, electrical) to ensure effective system-level design and integration.
- Provide input and documentation for part drawings, assembly drawings, and test procedures.
- Stay updated on trends in miniaturization, energy harvesting, and eco-friendly automotive hardware design.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems or a related field.
- Hands-on experience 3-6 yrs in embedded hardware design specific to automotive systems, battery management, and motor control.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills, essential for cross-disciplinary development environments.
