The EHS Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) systems across the hospital. The role ensures compliance with statutory regulations, accreditation standards (NABH/NABL), environmental norms, occupational health and safety requirements, biomedical waste management protocols, fire and life safety regulations, and emergency preparedness to provide a safe environment for patients, visitors, employees, and contractors.
- Ensure compliance with environmental laws and pollution control board regulations.
- Oversee biomedical waste segregation, storage, transportation, and disposal.
- Monitor sewage treatment plant (STP), effluent treatment plant (ETP), and waste management systems.
- Promote environmental sustainability initiatives, including water conservation, energy efficiency, and waste reduction.
- Conduct periodic environmental compliance audits.
- Develop and implement Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) policies and procedures.
- Conduct hospital-wide risk assessments and hazard identification.
- Ensure compliance with PPE usage and infection prevention safety practices.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and occupational injuries, implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain statutory safety records and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with fire safety regulations and hospital fire management plans.
- Coordinate periodic fire drills and evacuation exercises.
- Monitor maintenance of firefighting equipment and emergency response systems.
- Coordinate with fire authorities during inspections.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and labor regulations.
- Coordinate inspections by regulatory authorities.
- Maintain all statutory licenses, permits, and compliance documentation.
- Support NABH/NABL audits and other accreditation requirements.
- Develop emergency response plans for fire, disasters, hazardous material spills, and medical emergencies.
- Lead mock drills and emergency preparedness training.
- Coordinate disaster management committees.
- Conduct EHS induction training for new employees.
- Organize regular safety awareness programs.
- Train staff on emergency response, PPE usage, biomedical waste handling, ergonomics, and infection control safety.
- Conduct internal EHS inspections and compliance audits.
- Monitor safety KPIs and prepare monthly reports.
- Recommend corrective and preventive actions for identified risks.
- Track closure of audit observations.
- Ensure contractors comply with hospital safety requirements.
- Conduct contractor safety orientation.
- Monitor high-risk work such as electrical maintenance, confined space entry, hot work, and work at height.
- Maintain EHS policies, SOPs, MSDS records, incident reports, training records, audit reports, and statutory documentation.
- Prepare periodic management reports on EHS performance.
- Present safety metrics to hospital leadership.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Industrial Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, or related discipline.
- Diploma/PG Diploma in Industrial Safety or equivalent certification preferred.
- NEBOSH, IOSH, Fire & Safety, or OSHA certification is an added advantage.
