Job Description:
Job Purpose
Intercontinental Exchange, Inc. (ICE) presents an opportunity for a full-time Manager to lead and grow the AI Center of Excellence (AICOE) team based in India. This leadership role is central to ICE’s long-term strategy to embed Generative AI technologies across the enterprise in a responsible, scalable, and sustainable way.
The incumbent will be accountable for establishing a high-performing AICOE support structure in India, working closely with global AICOE leadership to drive key initiatives forward. This is primarily a people-leadership and delivery-enablement role, the ideal candidate will build and mentor a capable team of AI/ML practitioners, orchestrate cross-functional collaboration, and ensure that AICOE programs are executed with rigor and impact.
While deep hands-on engineering is not the primary expectation, the candidate is expected to bring Applied AI Expertise — a working, practical fluency with the modern AI tooling landscape. This includes hands-on experience with agentic AI platforms and productivity tools such as Claude Desktop, Claude CLI, Claude Code, Cursor, Microsoft Copilot, and Google Gemini, as well as a solid command of prompting techniques and prompt engineering practices. The candidate must be capable of evaluating, adopting, and championing such tools within the team and broader enterprise.
This position requires strong leadership presence, business acumen, and exemplary communication skills. The candidate will frequently engage with senior stakeholders, technology leaders, and business partners across ICE’s global operations to align priorities, secure resources, and communicate progress.
Responsibilities
-
Lead and manage the India-based AICOE team, setting clear goals and performance expectations while fostering a culture of innovation, ownership, and continuous improvement.
-
Build and scale the India AICOE practice by identifying talent needs, driving targeted hiring at various levels (engineers, data scientists, ML practitioners), and developing onboarding and retention strategies.
-
Partner with global AICOE leadership to understand strategic priorities and translate them into executable plans for the India team, ensuring alignment with enterprise AI/ML objectives.
-
Oversee the delivery of AICOE initiatives across their full lifecycle, from ideation and scoping through development, testing, and production deployment, ensuring solutions are delivered on time, within budget, and to a high standard of quality.
-
Champion the adoption and effective use of Applied AI tools and agentic platforms (e.g., Claude Desktop, Claude CLI, Claude Code, Cursor, Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini) within the team; promote best-practice prompting techniques and prompt engineering as core skills across the AICOE, and advocate for the broader use of these capabilities across business functions.
-
Establish and maintain robust program governance structures, including status reporting, risk management, dependency tracking, and escalation pathways, to give leadership full visibility into AICOE progress.
-
Engage proactively with internal business and technology stakeholders to identify emerging AI/ML needs, define solution approaches, and ensure AICOE capabilities are well understood and effectively leveraged.
-
Create and present clear, compelling reports and executive-level communications that convey AICOE initiative status, outcomes, and strategic value to diverse audiences including senior leadership.
-
Drive a culture of responsible AI use within the team, ensuring that solutions are developed and deployed in line with ICE’s data governance, security, and ethical AI standards.
-
Serve as a visible and inspirational leader for the India AICOE team, providing coaching, career development guidance, and mentorship to team members at all levels.
-
Identify opportunities to continuously improve team processes, tooling, and methodologies, drawing on best practices from across the industry to raise the bar on execution quality and speed.
-
Collaborate with external technology partners, vendors, and research communities as needed to stay ahead of the rapidly evolving Generative AI landscape and bring relevant innovations into the AICOE portfolio.
Knowledge and Experience
-
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline; an MBA or equivalent business leadership qualification is an advantage.
-
12+ years of progressive experience in technology roles, with at least 3+ years in a senior leadership or people management capacity overseeing AI/ML, data science, or enterprise technology teams.
-
Demonstrated track record of building and scaling high-performing technical teams, including end-to-end ownership of hiring, onboarding, performance management, and talent development.
-
Applied AI Expertise — demonstrated, hands-on proficiency with the modern Generative AI and agentic tooling ecosystem. This includes practical, day-to-day use of tools such as Claude Desktop, Claude CLI, Claude Code, Cursor, Microsoft Copilot, and Google Gemini for real business tasks, as well as a strong command of prompting techniques and prompt engineering practices (including zero-shot, few-shot, chain-of-thought, and role-based prompting). The candidate should be capable of guiding the team in applying these skills effectively and of evaluating new AI tools as they emerge.
-
Ability to engage substantively with technical teams on AI/ML solution design, data architecture, and delivery approaches without necessarily being a hands-on coder; sufficient technical fluency to ask the right questions, review approaches critically, and make informed decisions.
-
Proven experience managing complex, multi-workstream technology programs in a matrixed, global organization, including the use of structured project governance, risk management, and stakeholder communication frameworks.
-
Strong commercial awareness and business acumen, with the ability to connect AI/ML capabilities to tangible business value and articulate that value clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
-
Experience working in or closely with financial services, capital markets, or data-intensive enterprise environments is highly desirable.
-
Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and enterprise data infrastructure at a conceptual level, enabling effective oversight of cloud-native AI/ML development teams.
-
Knowledge of responsible AI principles, data governance, and enterprise security requirements as they apply to the development and deployment of AI/ML solutions.
-
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills (both written and verbal) with the ability to influence, inspire, and build trust across a diverse set of global stakeholders and at all organizational levels.
-
Experience operating in an agile, innovation-lab culture, with a bias for action, a growth mindset, and the ability to navigate ambiguity and drive clarity in a fast-moving environment.
