Job Summary:
The Safety Officer is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe working environment by ensuring compliance with aviation safety regulations, company policies, DGCA/BCAS requirements, and industry best practices. The role involves conducting safety inspections, investigating incidents, identifying hazards, and implementing corrective and preventive actions to enhance operational safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine safety inspections and audits across airport operational areas.
- Monitor compliance with DGCA, BCAS, ICAO, IATA, OSHA (where applicable), and company safety standards.
- Identify workplace hazards and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe occurrences and prepare detailed reports.
- Maintain the Safety Management System (SMS) documentation and records.
- Conduct safety risk assessments before introducing new processes or equipment.
- Organize and deliver safety induction and awareness training for employees and contractors.
- Monitor the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Ensure emergency response procedures are implemented and participate in emergency drills.
- Coordinate with airport authorities, airlines, ground handling agencies, and regulatory bodies on safety-related matters.
- Track closure of safety observations and corrective actions.
- Prepare monthly safety reports, statistics, and trend analysis for management.
- Promote a positive safety culture through regular awareness campaigns and toolbox talks.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, occupational health, and fire safety requirements.
Key Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of aviation safety regulations and Safety Management Systems (SMS).
- Good understanding of DGCA, ICAO, IATA, and BCAS guidelines.
- Excellent observation and analytical skills.
- Incident investigation and root cause analysis.
- Risk assessment and hazard identification.
- Effective communication and report writing skills.
- Ability to conduct safety training and presentations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Educational Qualification:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Aviation Management, Occupational Health & Safety, or any relevant discipline.
- Diploma/Certification in Industrial Safety, Aviation Safety, or NEBOSH/IOSH (preferred).
Experience:
- 2–5 years of experience in aviation, airport operations, ground handling, or industrial safety.
- Experience in implementing Safety Management Systems (SMS) is preferred.
Preferred Certifications:
- DGCA Safety Management System (SMS) Training
- IOSH Managing Safely
- NEBOSH IGC (Preferred)
- First Aid & Fire Fighting Certification
- Incident Investigation Training
- Risk Assessment Training

Working Conditions:
- Rotational shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
- Frequent movement across airside and landside operational areas.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- May be required to respond during emergencies outside normal working hours.
