Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor / Maintenance Manager
Job Summary
The Fitter cum Welder is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, fabrication, and welding of machinery, equipment, pipelines, and structural components within the factory. The role requires expertise in both mechanical fitting and welding activities to ensure smooth plant operations, minimize downtime, and maintain safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Fitting
- Install, assemble, dismantle, and repair machinery and mechanical equipment.
- Carry out preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance activities.
- Inspect machinery and identify mechanical faults, wear, and defects.
- Replace damaged or worn-out components such as bearings, shafts, belts, gears, and couplings.
- Align, adjust, and test equipment after maintenance and repairs.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical manuals.
Welding & Fabrication
- Perform Arc, MIG, TIG, Gas, and other welding processes as required.
- Fabricate and repair metal structures, pipelines, supports, and machine components.
- Cut, grind, and prepare materials for welding and fabrication work.
- Inspect weld quality and ensure compliance with required standards.
- Carry out modification and fabrication jobs as per maintenance and production requirements.
General Responsibilities
- Maintain tools, welding machines, and maintenance equipment in good working condition.
- Follow all safety procedures, including PPE usage and hot work permit requirements.
- Maintain records of maintenance and fabrication work completed.
- Coordinate with maintenance, production, and engineering teams for timely completion of tasks.
- Ensure proper housekeeping in work areas.
- Support plant shutdowns, overhauls, and emergency maintenance activities.
Required Qualifications
- ITI in Fitter/Welder Trade or equivalent technical qualification.
- Additional welding certification will be an advantage.
Experience
- 2–5 years of experience as a Fitter, Welder, or Fitter cum Welder in manufacturing, engineering, processing, or industrial plants.
- Experience in maintenance, fabrication, and welding of industrial equipment and structures.
Technical Skills
- Mechanical fitting and maintenance skills.
- Proficiency in Arc, MIG, TIG, and Gas Welding.
- Knowledge of pumps, motors, conveyors, gearboxes, pipelines, and industrial machinery.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and fabrication layouts.
- Familiarity with maintenance tools, welding equipment, and measuring instruments.
- Basic knowledge of workplace safety and maintenance practices.
Soft Skills
- Problem-solving and troubleshooting ability.
- Attention to detail and quality workmanship.
- Teamwork and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet maintenance schedules.
- Strong commitment to safety and operational efficiency.
