Job Summary
The Computer Lab Assistant is responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and administration of computer laboratories. The role includes ensuring that computer systems, software, networks, and laboratory equipment function efficiently while providing technical support to students, faculty, and staff during practical sessions.
Key Responsibilities Laboratory Operations
- Open and prepare the laboratory before scheduled practical sessions.
- Ensure all computer systems are operational and ready for use.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laboratory.
- Verify the availability of required hardware, peripherals, and software.
Technical Support
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot operating systems and software applications.
- Resolve hardware and software issues during laboratory sessions.
- Assist students and faculty with technical problems.
- Configure printers, scanners, projectors, and other peripherals.
Hardware Maintenance
- Perform routine maintenance of desktops, laptops, and servers.
- Replace faulty components such as RAM, SSDs, keyboards, mice, and power supplies.
- Report major hardware failures to the Lab In-Charge.
- Maintain preventive maintenance schedules.
Software Management
- Install and update licensed software.
- Configure programming environments, IDEs, databases, and simulation software.
- Maintain antivirus and security updates.
- Ensure software licensing compliance.
Network Support
- Monitor LAN connectivity and internet availability.
- Configure network devices under the guidance of the network administrator.
- Report network failures promptly.
- Assist in maintaining Wi-Fi connectivity within the laboratory.
Laboratory Inventory
- Maintain inventory records of computers, peripherals, and accessories.
- Label and track laboratory assets.
- Maintain issue/return registers for equipment.
- Report damaged or missing equipment.
Student & Faculty Assistance
- Support faculty during practical classes.
- Assist students with laboratory exercises.
- Ensure students follow laboratory rules and safety procedures.
- Help organize workshops, FDPs, seminars, and technical events.
Documentation
- Maintain:
- Attendance registers
- Lab utilization records
- Maintenance logs
- Software installation records
- Asset registers
- Complaint and service registers
- Backup records
Data Backup & Security
- Perform regular backups of important laboratory data.
- Ensure user accounts are properly managed.
- Monitor antivirus status and cybersecurity best practices.
- Prevent unauthorized installation of software.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow institutional IT and laboratory policies.
- Ensure electrical safety and proper cable management.
- Report safety hazards immediately.
- Support compliance with institutional quality standards.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma/Bachelor's degree in:

- Related field

- Windows and Linux administration

Working Conditions
