Roles & Responsibilities
1. Machine Operation
- Operate CNC VMC machines safely and efficiently.
- Load and unload raw materials and finished components.
- Set workpiece using appropriate fixtures, clamps, and vices.
- Select and load cutting tools as per job requirements.
- Perform machine warm-up and basic operational checks.
2. Drawing Interpretation
- Read and understand mechanical drawings.
- Understand dimensions, tolerances, GD&T basics, and machining symbols.
- Follow process sheets and work instructions.
3. Tool Management
- Install and replace cutting tools.
- Measure tool offsets and enter them into the machine.
- Monitor tool wear and replace damaged tools.
- Maintain tool inventory and tooling condition.
4. Machine Setup (if applicable)
- Set job fixtures.
- Set work coordinate systems (G54–G59).
- Set tool length offsets.
- Verify first-piece dimensions before production.
5. Quality Inspection
- Measure components using:
- Vernier Caliper
- Micrometer
- Height Gauge
- Dial Indicator
- Bore Gauge
- Thread Gauges
- Plug Gauges
- Record inspection results.
- Ensure all dimensions are within tolerance.
6. Production
- Produce components according to production schedule.
- Meet daily production targets.
- Minimize machine idle time.
- Reduce scrap and rework.
7. Machine Maintenance
- Perform daily machine cleaning.
- Check lubrication levels.
- Check coolant concentration and level.
- Report abnormal machine sounds or alarms.
- Maintain machine housekeeping.
8. Safety
- Wear PPE.
- Follow machine safety procedures.
- Maintain a clean work area (5S).
- Report unsafe conditions immediately.
9. Documentation
- Fill production reports.
- Record machine downtime.
- Maintain inspection reports.
- Record tool changes.
- Update job cards.
10. Continuous Improvement
- Suggest process improvements.
- Reduce machining cycle time.
- Reduce tool consumption.
- Improve machining quality.
