MEP Engineer – Roles and Responsibilities
Position: MEP Engineer (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing)
Key Responsibilities
1. Planning and Design
- Review and coordinate MEP drawings, specifications, and BOQs.
- Assist in the design and implementation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Ensure all MEP designs comply with project requirements, local regulations, and safety standards.
- Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, and consultants for design integration.
2. Project Execution
- Supervise installation of HVAC, electrical, firefighting, plumbing, and drainage systems.
- Monitor daily site activities and ensure work is executed according to approved drawings and specifications.
- Coordinate with contractors and subcontractors to ensure timely completion of MEP works.
- Resolve technical issues arising during project execution.
3. Quality Control
- Conduct inspections and quality checks of MEP installations.
- Ensure materials and workmanship meet project quality standards.
- Prepare and maintain inspection reports and quality documentation.
- Monitor testing and commissioning activities of MEP systems.
4. Project Coordination
- Attend project coordination meetings and provide technical support.
- Coordinate with civil, interior, and finishing teams to avoid work conflicts.
- Review shop drawings, material submittals, and method statements.
- Ensure proper sequencing of MEP works with overall project schedules.
5. Cost and Resource Management
- Monitor material consumption and project costs.
- Verify contractor bills and work completion reports.
- Assist in preparing project budgets and cost estimates.
- Ensure efficient utilization of manpower, equipment, and materials.
6. Safety and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
- Conduct site inspections to identify and mitigate safety risks.
- Verify that all MEP installations comply with statutory requirements and applicable codes.
7.Testing and Commissioning
- Supervise testing and commissioning of all MEP systems.
- Prepare commissioning reports and handover documentation.
- Ensure systems are functioning efficiently before project handover.
8. Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain project records, drawings, and technical documents.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports.
- Track project milestones and report any delays or issues to management.
- Support project handover and closeout activities.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Fighting, and ELV systems.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Office, and project management software.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and coordination skills.
- Knowledge of relevant building codes, standards, and safety regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- B.Tech/B.E. or Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering.
- 2–8 years of experience in MEP project execution and coordination.
- Experience in commercial, residential, institutional, or industrial construction projects.
