Position Summary
The Sewing Machine Operator Trainer / Stitching Trainer will be responsible for delivering practical and classroom-based training in tailoring and garment construction under CSR-funded skill development programs. The trainer will ensure high-quality training delivery, hands-on learning, assessment readiness, and placement-oriented skill development for beneficiaries.
The role requires strong technical expertise in industrial sewing operations, garment stitching techniques, machine handling, and learner engagement, especially for women and youth from underserved communities.
Key Responsibilities
Training Delivery
- Conduct practical and theoretical training sessions on:
- Basic and advanced stitching techniques
- Sewing machine operations
- Garment construction and finishing
- Measurement and cutting techniques
- Fabric handling and quality checks
- Industrial stitching processes
- Train candidates on the usage and maintenance of sewing machines and related tools.
- Deliver structured sessions as per the approved curriculum and training schedule.
- Demonstrate live practical exercises and supervise trainee practice sessions.
Curriculum & Assessment
- Prepare lesson plans, training materials, assignments, and practical exercises.
- Conduct regular assessments, mock practicals, and skill evaluations.
- Maintain trainee progress records, attendance, and assessment documentation.
- Support trainees for certification assessments under relevant skill development frameworks.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure training quality standards and classroom discipline are maintained.
- Monitor lab setup, machine functionality, and safety standards during training.
- Maintain proper documentation, batch records, and reporting as per project requirements.
- Ensure compliance with CSR program guidelines and partner expectations.
Mobilization & Student Support
- Motivate and mentor trainees for successful course completion.
- Provide career guidance and livelihood support to beneficiaries.
- Support mobilisation activities, counselling sessions, and community engagement when required.
- Encourage women participation and inclusive learning environments.
Placement & Industry Linkages
- Support trainees in developing employability skills and workplace readiness.
- Coordinate with placement teams and local garment industries for employment opportunities.
- Assist in organising exposure visits, industry interactions, and placement drives.
Eligibility Criteria
Education
- ITI / Diploma / Certification in Tailoring, Fashion Designing, Garment Manufacturing, or related field.
- Candidates with NSDC/SSC certification in Sewing Machine Operator or relevant trade will be preferred.
Experience
- 2–5 years of experience in tailoring, garment production, or vocational training.
- Prior experience as a Sewing Trainer / Tailoring Instructor / SMO Trainer preferred.
- Experience working in CSR or skill development projects will be an added advantage.
Required Skills
- Strong practical knowledge of industrial and domestic sewing machines.
- Expertise in cutting, stitching, garment finishing, and alterations.
- Good communication and classroom management skills.
- Ability to train candidates from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
- Documentation and reporting skills.
- Basic computer knowledge for maintaining records and reports.
