As Editorial Team Leader, you will play a critical role in enabling the success of both the Content Strategy and Content Development teams by ensuring the delivery of high-quality administrative, project, and data support across the Research Editorial function.
Opportunity
As an Editorial Team Leader, you will:
Lead and support a team of Editorial Assistants and other junior editorial colleagues, ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality administrative, project, and data support services.
Manage resource allocation across the team, ensuring workloads are balanced, transparent, and aligned with business priorities.
Monitor project progress, establish deadlines, track team performance, and report on key metrics.
Identify training and development needs, providing coaching and support to help team members build skills and progress their careers.
Act as the voice of the editorial support team in discussions with senior editorial stakeholders, driving continuous improvement and resolving operational challenges.
Oversee critical editorial support workflows, including contracts, payments, gratis copies, and project administration processes.
Support recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and employee development activities for the team.
Ensure project records, content data, and metadata are accurately maintained across relevant systems and in line with agreed standards.
Drive improvements in editorial processes, systems, and data quality to enhance efficiency and support content discoverability.
Serve as the first point of escalation for issues involving authors, editors, and project stakeholders.
Impact
This role is central to the smooth operation of the Research Editorial function. By leading and developing a skilled editorial support team, you will help ensure that publishing projects are delivered efficiently, editorial workflows run effectively, and critical content and project data is maintained to the highest standards. Your leadership will contribute directly to employee development, operational excellence, and the successful delivery of OUP's academic publishing programme.
About You
Essential Criteria
Experience leading a team and/or coaching, mentoring, and developing others.
Excellent organizational, project management, and time management skills.
Fluency in written and spoken English.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment.
Adaptability and a positive approach to change.
Experience supporting operational improvements, workflow enhancements, or change initiatives.
Desirable Criteria
Knowledge of academic publishing and editorial workflows.
Understanding of cross-format publishing, including print and digital products.
Experience managing editorial administration, project support, or publishing operations teams.
Experience working with content management systems, publishing databases, and metadata processes.
