A CMM Operator is responsible for operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to inspect and verify the dimensional accuracy of manufactured components. The role involves performing quality inspections, interpreting engineering drawings, preparing inspection reports, and ensuring products meet customer and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) for dimensional inspection of parts and assemblies.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and technical specifications.
- Perform first-article, in-process, and final inspections of manufactured components.
- Develop, edit, and run CMM inspection programs as required.
- Verify product dimensions, tolerances, and surface characteristics.
- Record and analyze inspection results and prepare quality reports.
- Identify non-conforming products and communicate quality issues to production and engineering teams.
- Calibrate measuring instruments and ensure equipment is maintained in good working condition.
- Follow quality management system requirements, safety procedures, and company policies.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to quality and inspection processes.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience operating CMM equipment in a manufacturing or quality environment.
- Knowledge of metrology principles and inspection techniques.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and understand GD&T.
- Familiarity with CMM software such as:
- PC-DMIS
- Calypso
- MCOSMOS
- Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and bore gauges.
- Basic computer and reporting skills.
