Job Summary
The Product Design Technician - Level I supports product design and development activities by creating, modifying, and maintaining engineering models, drawings, and product specifications in accordance with Cummins standards. Working independently or as part of a small team, the role contributes to the development and release of high-quality engineering deliverables while collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders.
This position develops and applies technical skills in CAD modeling, drafting, product specification development, configuration management, and engineering documentation. The incumbent supports engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle and ensures compliance with company, industry, national, and international standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, modify, and maintain 2D and 3D CAD models, assemblies, and engineering drawings using Creo.
- Ensure model and drawing quality in accordance with Cummins engineering standards and drafting practices.
- Develop and maintain product specifications utilizing Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Create assemblies and perform fit checks to ensure proper integration with mating components.
- Process internal engineering work requests and support engineering change activities.
- Utilize CAD and PLM tools, including Windchill, for configuration control, document management, and product data security.
- Support product configuration and change management processes throughout the product lifecycle.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams to clarify requirements and deliver solutions.
- Generate concept models and support design development activities.
- Perform model and drawing reviews, quality checks, and participate in Drawing Quality Reviews prior to release.
- Apply company, industry, national, and international engineering standards to all deliverables.
- Support the maintenance and continuous improvement of design standards, practices, and quality processes.
- Deliver engineering outputs in accordance with defined timelines, quality expectations, and project requirements.
- Participate in technical training and development activities to build product and design knowledge.

Qualifications
- High school diploma, certificate of completion of secondary education, or equivalent experience in a relevant STEM field.
- Diploma or technical qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Tool Design, or a related discipline preferred.
- Must meet educational requirements for participation in a formal apprenticeship or technical training program where applicable.
- Registration in a regionally certified apprenticeship or training program may be required.
- Compliance with applicable export control or sanctions regulations may be required.
Skills Required
- Proficiency in Creo for 3D modeling, assembly creation, and drawing generation.
- Working knowledge of Windchill or similar PLM systems.
- Strong understanding of engineering drawing standards and drafting practices.
- Knowledge of GD&T and product specification development.
- Understanding of mechanical design fundamentals and manufacturing processes.

Experience
- Typically requires 3–4 years of experience in product design, CAD modeling, drafting, or related engineering support functions.
- Experience with genset products, sheet metal components, or related mechanical systems is preferred.
- Hands-on experience using Creo (2D and 3D) and PLM systems such as Windchill.
- Experience supporting engineering design and development projects through model creation, drawing release, and configuration management activities.
- Exposure to product lifecycle management processes and engineering standards is advantageous.
