Laser Programmer
Job Summary
The Laser Programmer is responsible for creating and optimizing CNC laser cutting programs to ensure accurate, efficient, and cost-effective production of sheet metal components. The role involves interpreting engineering drawings, preparing nesting programs, optimizing material utilization, supporting production planning, and coordinating with Design, Production, Quality, and Planning teams to achieve production targets.
Key Responsibilities Programming & Nesting
- Develop CNC laser cutting programs using nesting software based on customer drawings and production requirements.
- Prepare optimized nesting layouts to maximize material utilization and minimize scrap.
- Generate machine-ready programs for laser cutting machines and ensure program accuracy before production.
- Select appropriate cutting parameters based on material type, thickness, and quality requirements.
- Modify and optimize existing programs to improve productivity and reduce cycle time.
Drawing Interpretation
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD files, and customer specifications.
- Verify dimensions, tolerances, material grades, and revision levels before program preparation.
- Ensure programs comply with customer requirements and manufacturing standards.
Production Support
- Coordinate with Design and Planning departments to prioritize production schedules.
- Support machine operators during first-off production and resolve programming-related issues.
- Conduct trial runs and validate new programs before releasing them for production.
- Assist in troubleshooting cutting quality issues and recommend process improvements.
Material & Process Optimization
- Optimize sheet utilization through efficient nesting techniques.
- Reduce material wastage by improving nesting strategies and cutting sequences.
- Maintain records of material consumption and nesting efficiency.
- Suggest productivity and cost-saving improvements through process optimization.
Coordination
- Work closely with Production, Quality, Stores, Purchase, and Maintenance teams for smooth manufacturing operations.
- Coordinate engineering changes and update programs accordingly.
- Provide technical support for new product development and process improvements.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 2–5 years of experience in CNC Laser Programming or Sheet Metal Manufacturing.
- Proficiency in laser programming and nesting software (such as SigmaNEST, Lantek, TruTops Boost, BySoft, RADAN, or equivalent).
- Good knowledge of CNC laser cutting machines and sheet metal fabrication processes.
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T, and material specifications.
- Knowledge of cutting parameters for MS, SS, Aluminium, and other sheet materials.
- Familiarity with CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar.
- Basic knowledge of CNC machine operations and preventive maintenance.
- Proficiency in MS Office for reporting and documentation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
