The role spans Windows Server, VMware vSphere/ESXi, disaster recovery (DR/SRM) enablement, and storage/SAN interactions (multipathing, zoning) to ensure high availability, performance, and operational resilience.
Key Responsibilities
Windows Server & AD Operations • Administer and harden Windows Server (2012–2025), AD/Group Policy, DNS/DHCP, certificate services. • Own patching, baseline compliance, and scheduled maintenance windows. • Extensive knowledge of Windows Server infrastructure management (2012–2025), including installation, configuration, hardening, patching, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management. • Good understanding on network / storage /backup tool Veeam • Good understanding on public cloud - Azure: • Design, implementation, and administration of Active Directory services including Domain Controllers, Forest/Domain architecture, OU structure, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and Certificate Services. • Manage Windows server operations including build, decommissioning, OS upgrades, vulnerability remediation, baseline compliance, and scheduled maintenance activities. • Experience in Windows security administration including server hardening, security policies, privileged access management (PAM), service accounts, and audit compliance. • Perform Windows patch management using WSUS/SCCM/MECM, including patch assessment, deployment planning, troubleshooting, and compliance reporting. • Troubleshoot Windows infrastructure issues including OS performance, CPU/memory/disk utilization, event logs, services, networking, authentication, and application dependencies. • Manage backup and recovery operations using enterprise backup solutions including backup monitoring, restore validation, and DR readiness activities. • Strong understanding of Windows high availability solutions including Failover Clustering, cluster troubleshooting, and application availability management. • Manage monitoring and operational tools for Windows infrastructure including alert handling, health checks, reporting, and incident resolution. • Support transition and transformation activities including current state assessment, documentation review, operational readiness, automation opportunities, and infrastructure improvement initiatives. • Experience working with hybrid infrastructure including Azure services, Entra ID integration, cloud connectivity, and migration readiness. • VMware & Virtualization • Design, implementation and supporting of VMware and Hyper-V Infrastructure. • Operate and optimize vSphere/ESXi, vCenter, vMotion, DRS, HA, templates, and lifecycle tasks.
Skill Requirements
Capacity planning, performance tuning, and remediation of hypervisor/guest issues. • Elevated Support for Windows, Cluster, VMWARE, Hyper-V and x86 ( HPE, Hyper-converge technologies) • Extensive knowledge on VMware Infrastructure Management (Installation, Up gradation, Troubleshooting). Built multiple Datacenter, vCenter, installed ESXi hosts(6.x,7.x,8.x,9.x) for different customers. Upgrade the Vcenter, troubleshoot the ESXi failures and provide the RCAs. Migration of on-prem VMs to Private cloud. Solution Design for Complex Enterprise Datacenter Build • Design and implement compute solutions, including security, capacity planning, backup and recovery and disaster planning. Upgrading the existing vsphere environment. Deep knowledge of ESXi architecture, upgrading the ESXi Infrastructure. Built the ESXi hosts from scratch on HPE DL360, DL380 Hardware. • VMware High-Availability: Architect and implement VMware high availability solutions based on business requirements. Configure and optimize vSphere clusters to ensure seamless failover and resource availability. Proactively monitor virtualized environments to identify and address potential issues. Investigate and resolve incidents related to high availability, ensuring minimal downtime. Maintain comprehensive documentation of high availability configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps. Ensure that standard operating procedures are up-to-date and followed. • VMware VMotion: Deploy VMware vMotion solutions to facilitate live migration of virtual machines between hosts. Regular updates of VMware Tools and Hardware Version of the Virtual machines for smooth vMotion. Ensure efficient utilization of resources and minimize downtime during migrations. Fine-tune vMotion configurations to enhance performance and reduce migration times. Collaborate with other teams to analyse and address performance bottlenecks in virtualized environments. Conduct compatibility assessments for hardware, firmware, and software to ensure smooth vMotion operations. Implement updates and patches as needed to maintain compatibility. Investigate and resolve issues related to vMotion, ensuring a high level of reliability and availability. • VMware DRS: Configure multiple clusters with DRS for different customers. Extensive experience is troubleshooting the DRS clusters. • VMware vCenter and vCenter Update Manager/SCVMM : Deployed and configured VMware vCenter Server to manage virtualized infrastructure efficiently. Extensively worked on vSphere clusters, hosts, and virtual machines through vCenter.
Other Requirements
Implement and maintain security best practices for vCenter Server. Handled regular audits and assessments to ensure compliance with organizational policies. Hands on experience with Update manager, creating the baseline and remediate the ESXi hosts. • VMware vCenter and Web console: Worked on all the flavours of VMware from 4.1 to 9.0 also having hands of experience on deploying the components. • Deep Working Knowledge of VMware Distributed switches • Working knowledge on Blade and Rack Server, Advance knowledge on Troubleshooting the Hardware related issue. • Working experience on HP Monitoring Tools. • Knowledge on Migration and Virtual Centre: • Installation and Configuration of backup • Troubleshooting Hardware and Operating system related issue • Capacity planning and Fine tune system for optimal performance • Extensive experience in handling customer calls and meetings. Good communication skills. Responsible for daily / weekly review meetings & status update. Scheduling and planning the deliverables on agreed milestones. • I have worked with multiple customers having very large infrastructure supporting 5000+ VMs and ESXi across multiple Vcenter. • Good understanding on Data migration tool: Building the AWS private cloud from scratch and configure the tool for migrations of VMs. Migrated physical Windows/Linux servers using VMware standalone converter. • Open for 24x7 operations • Hands-on experience on windows 2003 / 2008 / 2012 / 2016 / 2019 / 2022 / 2025: including troubleshooting and deployment of platforms. • Good understanding on network / storage /backup tool Veeam • Good understanding on public cloud - Azure: • DR / SRM Readiness o Collaborate to design/validate SRM runbooks and DR tests; guide remediation where DR is pending or backup restore is the interim path • Storage & SAN (IBM / Fibre Channel) o Work with storage teams on multipathing (Active/Active policies, path failover/load balancing), and zoning (dual fabric, single initiator/single target) for security and stability. o Validate HBA configuration, firmware, and end to end path health across dual FC fabrics. • Incident & Problem Management o Act as L3 resolver for major incidents; engage the Duty Manager and follow the escalation path (Incident Manager Duty Manager) per process. o Contribute root-cause analysis, preventive actions, and knowledge capture. • Monitoring, Alerts & ITSM o Consume alerts (e.g., Opsgenie), triage, and log/track in the ITSM tool; drive integration hygiene and ticket quality Must Have Skills • Windows Server operations (AD, GPO, DNS/DHCP, patching, Ivanti DSM). • Strong VMware vSphere/ESXi/vCenter administration; vMotion/HA/DRS, template management, upgrades. • Practical knowledge of SAN: multipathing (MPIO/NMP/PowerPath), zoning (dual fabric FC), and storage performance troubleshooting • Exposure to DR/SRM planning, backup/restore workflows, and DR test execution. • Proficiency with ITSM (ServiceNow, Preferrable Matrix 42) and major incident handling in enterprise settings. Good to Have • Scripting (PowerShell/Python) for automation and reporting. • Familiarity with alerting/observability tools (Opsgenie, Splunk, etc.). • Understanding of network/security concepts (firewall, VLAN/VXLAN, load balancers) of virtualized environments
