The CSSD Technician is responsible for the decontamination, cleaning, sterilization, storage, and distribution of medical and surgical instruments and supplies. The role ensures strict adherence to infection control protocols and sterilization standards to maintain patient safety.
3. Key Responsibilities
A. Decontamination & Cleaning
- Receive used instruments from OT, wards, and departments.
- Segregate instruments based on type and contamination level.
- Perform manual and mechanical cleaning (washer/disinfector).
- Ensure proper use of detergents and disinfectants.
B. Sterilization Process
- Operate sterilization equipment such as autoclaves, ETO, and plasma sterilizers.
- Pack and label instruments according to sterilization guidelines.
- Monitor sterilization cycles using chemical and biological indicators.
- Maintain records of sterilization cycles.
C. Inspection & Assembly
- Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and damage.
- Assemble surgical trays and instrument sets as per requirement.
- Lubricate and maintain instruments where necessary.
D. Storage & Distribution
- Store sterile items in appropriate conditions.
- Maintain stock levels of sterile supplies.
- Issue sterile instruments to OT and other departments as required.
- Ensure FIFO (First In First Out) method is followed.
- Follow hospital infection control policies strictly.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Ensure proper waste disposal as per biomedical waste guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in CSSD area.
Pay: ₹12,000.00 - ₹15,000.00 per month
