An Acetylene Plant Engineer (or Operator) in an oxygen/industrial gas plant is responsible for the safe and efficient generation, purification, compression, and cylinder filling of acetylene gas.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Production Monitoring: Operating and monitoring acetylene production equipment, including calcium carbide-to-water reactors.
- Process Control: Managing the pressurization, purification, and drying of acetylene gas to ensure high-purity output.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting on compressors, pumps, and generators to minimize downtime.
- Safety Compliance: Ensuring strict adherence to safety regulations, including managing the hazardous, potentially unstable acetylene gas.
- System Operation: Operating screw feed conveyors, agitating systems, and hydraulic pumps for calcium carbide feeding.
- Cylinder Filling: Managing the filling of acetylene cylinders, ensuring proper safety, pressure, and weight requirements.
- Data Logging: Recording, analyzing, and reporting production data, gas quality, and maintenance activities
