DIESEL ENGINE MECHANIC – JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Diesel Engine Mechanic
Department: Service / Workshop

Reporting To: Workshop Manager / Service Manager
Job Purpose
To inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines and related mechanical systems, ensuring vehicles/equipment operate safely, efficiently, and reliably.
Key Responsibilities
- Engine Inspection & Diagnosis
- Inspect diesel engines to identify mechanical and performance issues.
- Diagnose engine faults using appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Check engine components, fuel systems, cooling systems, and lubrication systems.
- Repair & Maintenance
- Perform engine servicing, repairs, and overhauling.
- Replace or repair defective engine components.
- Carry out oil changes, filter replacement, belt replacement, and other preventive maintenance.
- Repair fuel injection systems, pumps, injectors, and related components.
- Troubleshooting
- Identify causes of abnormal noise, smoke, overheating, starting problems, and low engine performance.
- Perform necessary repairs and verify the vehicle after repair.
- Follow manufacturer-recommended repair procedures.
- Workshop Operations
- Use hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments, and workshop equipment safely.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety standards in the workshop.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of tools and spare parts.
- Quality & Safety
- Complete repair work according to required quality standards.
- Follow workshop safety procedures and use appropriate PPE.
- Conduct final inspections and test runs after completing repairs.
- Documentation
- Record inspection findings, repairs completed, parts replaced, and labour performed.
- Inform the Service Advisor/Workshop Manager about additional repairs required.
- Maintain accurate job-card and service records.
Required Skills
- Good knowledge of diesel engines and mechanical systems
- Engine troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
- Knowledge of fuel injection and cooling systems
- Ability to use mechanical tools and diagnostic equipment
- Good problem-solving ability
- Basic computer knowledge
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong attention to safety and quality
Qualification & Experience
Qualification: ITI / Diploma in Diesel Mechanic, Automobile, or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
Experience: 1–5 years of relevant experience preferred.
Freshers/trainees: Can be considered based on technical knowledge and willingness to learn.
Pay: Up to ₹30,000.00 per month
