Role description
JOB DESCRIPTION: Principal Data Architect (Modeling & Migration) ROLE OVERVIEW We are seeking a high-seniority Principal Data Architect to serve as the sole technical authority for the platform's data layer. You will lead the Discovery Phase, focusing on transforming a fragmented landscape of Excel, Word, and siloed systems into a high-performance Unified Data Model. Your primary goal is to establish a "Source of Truth" and design the technical blueprint that our orchestration team will use to integrate multiple systems for both daily operational work and advanced analytics. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES Discovery & Strategy Lead technical deep-dives into legacy data sources (Word, Excel, siloed systems) to extract underlying business logic and data patterns. Perform automated data profiling to assess quality, consistency, and structural gaps before ingestion. Define the "Golden Record" logic for entity resolution across multiple systems. Create Source-to-Target Mapping (STTM) and transformation specifications for the orchestration team. Hybrid Data Modeling Design robust relational schemas (3NF) to support "regular work" and operational platform functions. Architect scalable Data Warehouse/Lakehouse structures (Star Schema or Data Vault) for advanced analytics. Define the metadata-driven framework for cross-system data governance and versioning. Ensure the schema can evolve to include new external systems without breaking existing workflows. Migration & Technical Leadership Architect the end-to-end plan for migrating historical and active trial data from legacy formats. Collaborate with the Solution Architect to align data models with overall infrastructure. Provide clear logic and "business rules" to the orchestration specialists. Design the traceability framework to ensure every data point can be audited back to its original source. REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS Experience: 12+ years in Data Architecture and Modeling in complex, regulated environments. Modeling Mastery: Expert proficiency in both transactional (OLTP) and analytical (OLAP) modeling. Technical Profiling: Expert-level SQL and Python (specifically Pandas, Openpyxl, and Regex) for analyzing messy datasets. Warehousing/Lake: Experience architecting modern cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, etc.) and Medallion architectures. Integrations: Deep understanding of metadata-driven ETL/ELT logic, APIs, and JSON/XML parsing. SENIORITY REQUIREMENTS Ability to act as the "Single Authority" on data content and structure. High-level technical foresight to anticipate and mitigate "data drift" in legacy systems. Strong communication skills to translate business pain points into technical blueprints.
