Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Architectural Draftsman to join our growing design team. In this role, you will be responsible for transforming initial architectural concepts, sketches, and specifications into precise, detailed 2D and 3D technical drawings and construction documents.
The ideal candidate has a strong grasp of building construction elements, a keen eye for detail, and advanced proficiency in industry-standard CAD and BIM software. You will collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and project managers to ensure that all drawings are accurate, structurally sound, and compliant with relevant building codes and zoning laws.
Key Responsibilities
- Drafting & Technical Drawing: Prepare detailed architectural drawings, including floor plans, elevations, sections, site plans, and structural details from rough sketches, notes, and verbal instructions.
- Collaboration: Work alongside architects and engineers to integrate structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) designs into the main architectural plans.
- Compliance: Ensure all blueprints and technical drawings adhere to local building codes, zoning bylaws, health and safety regulations, and company standards.
- Revisions & Updates: Modify and refine drawings based on feedback from clients, project architects, or structural adjustments during the construction phase.
- Documentation Management: Organize, maintain, and archive electronic and physical drawing files, project documentation, and specifications schedules.
- Site Visits: Occasionally visit project sites to take measurements, verify existing conditions, and ensure construction aligns with the approved blueprints.
Requirements and Qualifications Education & Experience
- Degree/Diploma: Associate degree, technical diploma, or certification in Architectural Drafting, Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Architecture, or a related field.
- Experience: 2–5 years of proven experience as an architectural draftsman or in a similar role within an architecture firm or construction company.
Technical Skills
- Software Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit (BIM) is highly preferred. Familiarity with SketchUp, Rhino, or 3ds Max is a plus.
- Construction Knowledge: Strong understanding of building materials, construction methods, and architectural symbols/conventions.
- Codes & Standards: Solid working knowledge of local building codes, ADA regulations, and zoning ordinances.
Soft Skills
- Attention to Detail: High level of precision and accuracy to prevent costly structural or design errors.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.
