Job description
A desktop support engineer is an IT professional who provides technical support for computers and software systems:
- Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and repair hardware and network issues
- Installation: Install, configure, and maintain desktop computers, software, and peripheral equipment
- Support: Provide end-user support, including responding to client inquiries and providing technical support
- Upgrades: Perform system upgrades and advise on software and hardware upgrades
- Documentation: Document incidents, problems, and resolutions
- Communication: Communicate progress frequently if troubleshooting complex problems
- Follow-up: Follow-up afterwards to ensure the original problem was fully addressed
- Log: Maintain a log of job tickets and maintenance tasks
Key Responsibilities
- Provide L1 technical support for desktops, laptops, Printers and peripherals
- Install and configure operating systems (Windows/macOS)
- Troubleshoot basic hardware and software issues
- Assist in network connectivity (LAN/Wi-Fi) issues
- Configure printers, scanners, and other devices
- Support Microsoft Office / Microsoft 365 applications
- Handle IT helpdesk tickets and resolve issues within SLA
- Provide remote support using tools like AnyDesk / TeamViewer
- Maintain IT assets and inventory records
- Assist senior engineers in system maintenance and updates
Required Skills
- Basic knowledge of computer hardware & networking
- Familiarity with Windows OS and MS Office
- Understanding of troubleshooting techniques
- Willingness to learn new technologies
- Basic knowledge of Active Directory (preferred)
Qualification
- Diploma / Bachelor’s Degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field
- Candidates with 1–5 year experience can apply
