Role Overview
The Back-End Web Developer will support the Marketing organization by developing and maintaining the back-end website architecture, CMS functionality, integrations, APIs, data structures, and technical foundations that power the global marketing website and related digital properties. This role will be part of the U.S.-led Web Operations team and will partner closely with the Director of Digital Experience & Web Strategy, front-end development, web operations resources, IT, SEO, analytics, UX/design partners, and business stakeholders.
The ideal candidate should bring strong back-end development fundamentals, CMS architecture experience, integration capability, and comfort working across modern, scalable, AI-enabled digital experience environments. This is not intended to be a basic website maintenance role it is focused on building reliable, secure, scalable, and future-ready web platform capabilities.
This role will help ensure the website platform can support structured content, component reuse, personalization, intelligent search, forms, integrations, analytics, SEO/AEO/GEO requirements, global/multilingual content needs, governance, and future AI-forward digital experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, enhance, and maintain back-end website functionality, CMS content models, schemas, integrations, APIs, and platform capabilities across the global marketing website and related digital properties.
Support back-end development for the Sanity CMS headless architecture, including schema design, GROQ queries, Sanity Studio customization, and API layer development within the Next.js framework.
Build and maintain scalable content models, taxonomies, structured content schemas, workflows, permissions, reusable content blocks, and publishing processes in Sanity that support global marketing needs.
Partner with the front-end developer to ensure back-end content structures, APIs, GROQ queries, forms, and integrations properly support front-end components and user experiences built with React, shadcn/ui, Tailwind CSS, and Storybook.
Experience working in agile/scrum workflows with 2–3 week sprint cycles, including the ability to lead sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives within a small, self-managing development team.
Support website integrations with marketing technology, analytics, forms, CRM (Salesforce), marketing automation (Pardot), chatbot/conversational tools (Qualified), personalization platforms (Optimizely), intent data platforms (6sense), DAM (Bynder), localization (Smartling), consent tools, and other connected systems.
Ensure back-end implementation supports SEO, AEO/GEO, structured content, schema markup, metadata, redirects, performance, analytics tagging (GA4/GTM), and conversion tracking requirements.
Support data, content, and platform readiness for AI-forward digital experiences, including structured content, intelligent search, personalization, guided journeys, chatbot integrations, AI content tools (Jasper), and future automation use cases.
Maintain security, performance, reliability, scalability, accessibility support, and code quality across back-end website development work.
Participate in QA, UAT, troubleshooting, regression testing, release validation, issue resolution, and production support for website enhancements and launches.
Document back-end configuration, Sanity content models, integration logic, dependencies, release processes, and technical standards that enable the Web Operations team to scale.
Work within Git, version control, code review, CI/CD pipelines, deployment, and agile delivery processes to ensure high-quality and controlled releases.
Use AI-enabled coding tools and modern development practices to improve speed, quality, testing, documentation, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement while maintaining strong development judgment.
Required Skills and Experience
5+ years of professional web development experience.
Strong hands-on experience with back-end web development, headless CMS implementation, and modern web platform architecture.
2+ years of experience with Sanity CMS, including content modeling, schema design, GROQ queries, and Sanity Studio customization or equivalent experience with another headless CMS (Contentful, Strapi, Hygraph) with demonstrated ability to ramp quickly on Sanity.
3+ years of experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js in a production environment.
Experience with React and Next.js (server components, API routes, SSR/SSG) — sufficient to build and maintain server-side logic and data-fetching layers.
Strong understanding of CMS content modeling, structured content, taxonomies, workflows, permissions, reusable components, and publishing structures in a headless/decoupled architecture.
Experience managing hosting and infrastructure for production web applications (Vercel, Netlify, or similar cloud platforms).
Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs and GraphQL and integrating third-party services, CRM/marketing technology connections, analytics tools, and web platform dependencies.
Understanding of SEO, structured content, schema markup, metadata, redirects, site performance, accessibility support, analytics tagging, and conversion tracking considerations.
Experience with content migration, environment management, deployment processes, and platform troubleshooting.
Experience supporting secure, scalable, reliable, and performant web platforms in enterprise or large-scale environments.
Experience working with Git, version control, code review, CI/CD pipelines, release processes, and agile development workflows.
Familiarity with AI-enabled development tools, copilots, automated testing, debugging, or workflow automation is preferred.
Experience with B2B, SaaS, global, multilingual, or enterprise marketing websites is required.
Nice-to-Have Skills
Experience with modern UI development using Tailwind CSS and reusable component libraries.
Familiarity with component documentation and design systems (e.g., Storybook, shadcn/ui).
Exposure to web analytics, A/B testing, and personalization platforms.
Experience integrating CMS, CRM, marketing automation, or DAM platforms.
Understanding of internationalization (i18n) and localization workflows.
Exposure to AI-driven content solutions and headless CMS migration initiatives.
