The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for supervising the daily housekeeping operations of the hospital to ensure a clean, safe, and hygienic environment for patients, visitors, and staff. The role ensures compliance with infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols, hospital quality standards, and regulatory requirements while leading housekeeping personnel and maintaining high standards of cleanliness across all hospital areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise, guide, and monitor housekeeping staff during assigned shifts.
- Allocate daily duties and ensure timely cleaning of patient rooms, operation theatres (as applicable), ICUs, emergency areas, OPDs, laboratories, offices, corridors, washrooms, and public areas.
- Conduct routine inspections to ensure hospital cleanliness, hygiene, and infection control standards are consistently met.
- Ensure proper cleaning, disinfection, and waste segregation practices in accordance with biomedical waste management guidelines.
- Verify that housekeeping staff use appropriate cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Coordinate terminal cleaning of patient rooms following discharge, transfer, or isolation cases.
- Report maintenance issues and coordinate with the Engineering/Maintenance department for prompt resolution.
- Maintain adequate inventory of cleaning chemicals, consumables, linens (where applicable), and housekeeping equipment.
- Train and mentor housekeeping staff on cleaning procedures, infection prevention, patient safety, PPE usage, and emergency response protocols.
- Ensure adherence to hospital policies, NABH standards (where applicable), occupational health and safety requirements, and infection control practices.
- Handle patient and visitor complaints related to housekeeping services and ensure timely resolution.
- Prepare daily attendance, duty rosters, inspection reports, incident reports, and inventory records.
- Participate in internal audits, quality improvement initiatives, and accreditation activities.
- Coordinate with Nursing, Infection Control, Biomedical Waste Management, Security, and Maintenance departments to ensure smooth hospital operations.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Hotel Management, Hospital Administration, Facility Management, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum 3–5 years of housekeeping experience, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory role, preferably in a hospital or healthcare facility.
- Knowledge of hospital housekeeping procedures, infection prevention and control (IPC), biomedical waste management, and environmental hygiene.
- Familiarity with NABH standards and healthcare quality requirements is desirable.
- Basic computer skills (MS Office and housekeeping management systems).
