Job Summary
The Staff Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to patients, ensuring patient safety, administering medications, monitoring patient conditions, assisting physicians, maintaining accurate records, and delivering compassionate care in accordance with hospital policies, nursing standards, and regulatory requirements.
Key ResponsibilitiesGeneral Responsibilities (Applicable to Ward, ER & ICU)
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for assigned patients.
- Monitor and record patients' vital signs and clinical conditions.
- Administer medications, injections, IV fluids, and treatments as prescribed.
- Maintain accurate and timely nursing documentation.
- Assist physicians during examinations, procedures, and emergencies.
- Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans and discharge instructions.
- Ensure infection prevention and control practices are followed.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold professional ethics.
- Respond promptly to patient needs and emergencies.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure quality patient care.
- Ensure proper handling and maintenance of medical equipment and supplies.
- Participate in departmental meetings, training programs, and quality improvement initiatives.
Ward Staff Nurse Responsibilities Patient Care
- Provide routine nursing care to admitted patients.
- Conduct patient assessments and monitor recovery progress.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments.
- Prepare patients for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- Assist in patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
- Monitor intake and output records.
- Maintain patient comfort and hygiene.
Documentation
- Maintain nursing notes, medication records, and care plans.
- Report any changes in patient condition to the concerned physician and nurse supervisor.
Emergency Room (ER) Staff Nurse ResponsibilitiesEmergency Care
- Perform rapid patient assessment and triage.
- Provide immediate nursing interventions for emergency cases.
- Assist physicians during emergency procedures and resuscitation.
- Administer emergency medications and treatments.
- Monitor critically ill or injured patients.
Coordination
- Coordinate patient transfers to wards, ICU, operation theatre, or referral facilities.
- Ensure emergency equipment and crash carts are fully stocked and functional.
Documentation
- Record emergency assessments, treatments, and patient responses accurately.
Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Staff Nurse ResponsibilitiesCritical Care Management
- Provide comprehensive care to critically ill patients.
- Continuously monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and neurological status.
- Operate and monitor ventilators, infusion pumps, monitors, and other critical care equipment.
- Administer specialized medications and intravenous therapies.
- Assist with invasive procedures and emergency interventions.
Patient Monitoring
- Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition.
- Maintain accurate ICU charts and critical care documentation.
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and treatment planning.
Infection Control
- Strictly adhere to ICU infection prevention protocols and isolation procedures.
Qualifications
- B.Sc. Nursing / GNM Nursing from a recognized institution.
- Valid Nursing Council Registration.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification mandatory.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred for ER and ICU nurses.
- Relevant hospital experience preferred.
