· General
1) You shall report to the Pharmacy Head.
Functional Responsibilities
· Prescription Review & Dispensing
1) Receive, review, and validate prescriptions for legality, completeness, and therapeutic appropriateness.
2) Accurately dispense medications to inpatients, outpatients, and wards as per hospital protocols.
3) Ensure correct dosage, strength, and formulation before dispensing.
4) Counsel patients on dosage, administration, possible side effects, and storage of medicines.
· NABH & Legal Compliance
1) Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for medication handling as per NABH standards.
2) Maintain proper documentation for high-alert, narcotic, and psychotropic drugs as per NDPS Act.
3) Participate in medication error reporting and adverse drug reaction (ADR) monitoring.
4) Ensure that all activities comply with the Drugs & Cosmetics Act, NABH guidelines, and hospital policies.
· Inventory & Stock Management
1) Maintain adequate stock levels of essential, life-saving, and routine medicines.
2) Implement FIFO (First In, First Out) and FEFO (First Expiry, First Out) principles.
3) Monitor expiry dates, initiate returns, and assist in proper disposal of expired drugs.
4) Ensure cold chain maintenance for temperature-sensitive medicines.
· Patient & Staff Communication
1) Provide clear instructions to patients and caregivers on medication usage.
2) Coordinate with doctors and nurses regarding drug availability, substitutions, or clarifications.
3) Assist clinical teams in formulary adherence and therapeutic alternatives.
· Quality & Safety
1) Adhere to infection control and medication safety protocols.
2) Double-check high-risk medicines before dispensing.
3) Participate in NABH audits and quality improvement initiatives.
4) Keep up-to-date with new medicines, guidelines, and best practices.
