We are building a technology-enabled custom manufacturing platform from India and are looking for experienced professionals to join our Sourcing and Commercial team.
Role Summary
We are looking for a Manager – Strategic Sourcing who will be responsible for New Product Development (NPD), strategic sourcing, supplier development, costing, and supplier management for forgings, fittings, fasteners, and machined components.
The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on technical expertise in machining and forging processes, along with experience in should costing, supplier audits, NPD, quality systems, and commercial negotiations.
The role requires close collaboration with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Planning teams to ensure the right supplier, optimal cost, high quality, and on-time product development.
Key Responsibilities
1. New Product Development (NPD)
* Lead the end-to-end development of machined and forged components from RFQ to SOP.
* Review engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T to assess manufacturability and feasibility.
* Work with suppliers on DFM/DFA, VA/VE, process optimization, cost reduction, and lead-time reduction.
* Track prototypes, tooling, samples, inspection, approvals, and production readiness.
* Ensure NPD milestones are achieved within agreed timelines.
2. Strategic Sourcing, Costing & Supplier Strategy
* Manage sourcing for the complete BOM covering forgings, fittings, fasteners, and machined components.
* Identify, evaluate, onboard, and develop capable suppliers.
* Conduct should-costing / ZBC / SBC covering raw material, machining cycle time, tooling, secondary operations, overheads, and other manufacturing costs.
* Lead commercial negotiations with suppliers to achieve competitive pricing.
* Drive cost reduction, value engineering, and dual-sourcing initiatives while maintaining supply continuity.
3. Supplier Development & Supplier Panel Management
* Build and maintain a strong and competitive supplier base.
* Continuously identify and qualify new suppliers based on technical and commercial capabilities.
* Develop long-term supplier relationships and monitor Quality, Cost, and Delivery (QCD) performance.
* Conduct supplier capability assessments and technical/process audits.
* Evaluate supplier machinery, manufacturing processes, quality systems, capacity, and process controls.
* Drive timely closure of identified supplier gaps.
4. Machining Process Expertise – Critical Requirement
The candidate must have strong technical knowledge and hands-on expertise in standard and special machining processes, including:
* CNC Turning
* CNC Milling – 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis
* Grinding
* Honing
* Broaching
* Reaming
* Threading operations
* EDM
* SPMs
The candidate should be able to evaluate machining processes, tooling, fixtures, cycle time, process capability, and manufacturing feasibility during supplier assessments and NPD activities.
5. Forging Process Expertise – Critical Requirement
* Strong technical knowledge of Hot and Cold Forging processes.
* Understanding of open-die and closed-die forging.
* Knowledge of different material sizes, grades, and forging applications.
* Evaluate forging process capability, tooling, equipment, quality, and feasibility during supplier development and NPD.
* Support process optimization and cost reduction initiatives for forged components.
6. Quality Systems & Documentation
* Ensure supplier compliance with PPAP and APQP requirements.
* Review and approve:
* Control Plans
* PFMEA
* Process Flow
* Inspection Plans
* PPAP documentation
* Lead supplier RCA and CAPA activities.
* Support resolution of supplier-related production and field quality issues.
7. Cross-Functional Coordination & Reporting
* Work closely with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Planning teams.
* Conduct regular cross-functional reviews to track NPD progress and supplier readiness.
* Provide structured updates on:
* NPD milestones
* Supplier readiness
* Costing
* Risks
* Delivery timelines
* Mitigation plans
* Identify and escalate risks early to ensure alignment between design requirements, manufacturing capability, quality, and sourcing strategy.
Qualifications & Experience
* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
* 5+ years of experience in sourcing/procurement of metal components.
* Strong technical understanding of machining, forging, engineering drawings, and GD&T.
* Hands-on experience in should costing / cost engineering.
* Experience in supplier development, supplier audits, NPD, and supplier quality management.
* Working knowledge of PPAP, APQP, Control Plans, PFMEA, RCA, and CAPA.
* Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and cross-functional coordination skills.

What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who is technically strong, commercially capable, and hands-on with suppliers. The ideal candidate should be able to understand a component from its drawing and manufacturing process through costing, supplier selection, NPD, quality approval, and production readiness.
Pay: ₹800,000.00 - ₹2,500,000.00 per year
Work Location: In person
